Texting Services for Radio

I'm at a college radio station and would like to start using a texting service for the jocks and audience to communicate easily (short code service...i think is the term). Does anybody have suggestions on companies to use, or not to use?
The services i've looked at include "Whammobile" and "Club Texting" that run about $100/month. Also, do i need any special equipment or does it run off the internet interface?

For no cost to the station, you could have the listeners send a text to an email address on the studio desktop. Quite basic but gets the job done if you have no budget.
