Thank God for the Braves Announcers

I've ALWAYS felt that the on-air Braves announcers were about the best in the biz and now I feel that way even more so. Due to having to be on the road in the evenings I've been forced to listen to the first two World Series games on XM MLB channel 175 and it's the Yankees broadcasting team doing the announcing.

Holy cow.

There is a female named Susan (Suzyn according to their webpage... reminds me of a great Brian Regan skit, but that's for another time...) and some older male. Susan sounds like a hormonal Ellen Degeneres (yes, I know, that's a double entendre') and the guy sounds like a cross between Rodney Dangerfield and Dean Martin, half-sloshed. But it's not their voices that drive me nuts. It's how inane and utterly amateur they are.

Tonight when Texiera homered, the guy went nuts screaming stuff like "He just sent 'em a Tex message!" and "Tex is on the Mark!!". And that's just ONE example. The gal is painful to listen to, just painful, and about every five minutes says "I have a question for you... I have a question..." Well if you have a question, just ask it, don't keep telling us you have a question.

Honest to God I was actually saying OUT LOUD to my radio "Shaddup!!!" to these two. This is the broadcast team of the #1 market in the US???

Thank God for Joe and Chip and Don and Jim and Boog. We're damn lucky to have 'em.

"Of all the dramatic things...!" - Opie and Anthony use that clip of her all the time, too.

Even with the terrible loss of Skip Caray, we STILL have a really good announce team for the Braves. It definitely shows when listening to MLB radio on XM.

It's kind of cool how XM just taps in to each home team's local broadcast. Although, it's hard to listen to when YOUR team is the VISITING team. :D

I've always wished that when the Braves were in the playoffs that a local radio station would hire the Braves announcers to call the game anyway. That way I could watch FOX or NBC, wherever the game was being broadcast, turn the sound off, and tune the radio back to the Braves announcers. :-\

I was listening last night, too and initially picked up the Yankees broadcast team -- thought the same. Fortunately, I was listening on XM and had the option of listening to the ESPN coverage instead. You know the Yankees broadcasters must be horrible when even Joe Morgan sounds good. (But then again, since the Braves weren't playing, I didn't have to hear him constantly second-guessing Bobby Cox, which seems to be one of Joe's favorite pastimes.)

Feel the same way when I am listening to Tech away games on XM when I am out of town. Although, I was out of town for the UNC game at Grant Field (therefore, it was Wes and not Woody doing PBP), and had to keep reassuring myself that for this game, lots of crowd noise was a GOOD thing.

The video link posted above says exactly what I kept thinking last night: "Shut up, Suzyn! Shut up!!!"

The Yankees PBP man is John Sterling, who ironically was once a Braves announcer, working the likes of Skip and Pete. Sterling is fond of cliches such as "Its an A-Bomb from A-Rod!" Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankees win!

I believe he also was the main play-by-play man for the Hawks games during the early-mid 1980's before Steve Holman took over upon Sterling's departure from the Atlanta area.
