Thanks! And an Adobe Mp2 question

First off, let me thank all of the posters on this Production board. You guys have helped me immensely without me ever having to ask you a question. Thanks for all of the production insight. Ok, I'm stumped on this one - probably really simple - but I'm clueless. A certain agency posts late audio on their website in the Mp2 format. Lately, I need to scramble to get that late audio on our stations and sometimes I'll need to edit for content here and there. I can't figure out how to get Adobe Audition 1.5 or Cool Edit 2.1 to interpret the Mp2 files - they just come out as noise. Is there an easy way to do this that I'm missing? Thanks.

I did a Google search for an MP2 codec a couple years back. If I recall correctly, it took a little digging to find it, but within an hour or so I worked it out.
______________

The easiest way is to go to FILE > OPEN AUDIO FROM VIDEO. The codec is in the program, but for some reason, does not have audio properties. I know for sure this works with Audition 1.5 and I'm 90% sure it works in CEP2.1.

I have something called "Digital Converter" that will save as MP2..but I don't remember if it will go the other way..I'll try it tomorrow morning and I can send it to you. It was freeware.

Thank you all for replying. I tried Emmett's suggestion and it worked great! File: extract from video does the trick. This makes my life so much easier - you guys are awesome.

Here's another easy way. Use WinAmp. It's a free download.(If you don't already have it) Right click on the word "winamp" at the top of the program. Go to options..then preferences..
you'll see various programs listed..highlight nullsoft writer plugin
and then click configure/ok. Then double click on your mp2. You'll see the bar move quickly from left to right. WinAmp has just converted the mp2 to an mp3 and left it on your desktop. To play it..just reset winamp to Waveoutput..configure/ok. Or drag it into Cooledit/Adobe and do any editing necessary. Hope this also helps.

When I get MP2, I just play the MP2 in WinAMP and record it in Audition.
______________

I'm currently using Winamp to convert mp2 to wav to import into Pro Tools 6.4 for Windows. Is there a more direct way to import mp2 files into Pro Tools sessions? Thanks...
