Thanks to David Eduardo

We've many times sparred with David Eduardo "The Old Gringo" and sometimes, not nicely. He has, however, gained much friendship and respect here, while we've all learned some valuable education from his powerful research insight.

At other times, we've begged and pleaded with David just to share the wealth of radio research and knowledge he has over a half century of radio service. Now, David's out of an Executive VP research position at Univision. While not having to give in to giving or sharing rating info, PPM ideology of other opinions, which he unselfishly has --I hope everyone, including the board haters -- will empathize with David at this tough time in radio. Few people have the knowledge and the passion for a business and industry as he does -- and through many years here at R-I, he's come through many more times that he needed to be.

David, best wishes and get back on your feet soon.

Joe

Big Cuts At Univision: Recuerdo, Kalle & Research Unit
« on: Yesterday at 02:44:26 PM »

From the www.Radio-info.com afternoon News page dated 4/6/2011:
http://www.radio-info.com/news/big-...lized-recuerdo-format-kalle-and-research-unit

One of the people laid off from Univision's SIP internal research division (which was completely shut down) is EVP David Gleason, known on many of these forums as poster "David Eduardo". Best wishes to him and all those who lost their jobs, not only in this instance but throughout the industry & throughout the country during these tough economic times.

It's getting to where it is hard to say "radio" and smile at the same time.

Thanks for the thought; I'm in excellent shape but that only makes it all the more worrisome that very few radio veterans can say that. I see many dear friends and excellent people who have been caught up in the economy, changing media usage and the fickleness of fate (or Arbitron) and its sad.

Very well-said, oaktree.

DavidEduardo is a ton of fun on these boards, and I've learned quite a lot from him in the 3-4 years I've been here. It's truly Univision's loss... I wish David the best.

What would the Phoenix board be without El Gringo con los números? ;D

El Gringo, best wishes in finding a new job, if that is your plan-- Sí, se puede!!!

If you need a ride to a job interview, provided we can find the good Dr. sometime soon, I am confident that you will be riding in style to each and every interview. Nothing says hire me like arriving in a 1974 Levi's Special Gremlin. Por supuesto!! ;D

Vaya con dios, El Gringo! And may the numbers be with you!

He's still here. And he appreciates the comments.

I had barely gotten a chance to think about all those long trips I was going to do to Australia, India and such ("Don't go on vacation more than a week at a time or they will think you are not needed and replace you...) when I accepted a really delightful opportunity which involves less office drudgery and a lot more strategic thinking and competitive challenge. I'm under a non-disclosure at least initially, but the repo man ain't commin' to take my Gremlin away!

WAIT! Does that mean that the Fezmeister and caped crusader Nurse Jeffy might be one in the same David Eduardo?

I mean....there can't be TWO Gremlins alive today, can there?

Is it a Levi Edition? That'll give it away fer shure!!!!

It is great to see you posting, and with a mindset that includes abundant humor.

All this conversation about Gremlins.... I don't remember seeing any since I moved to Georgia. Does your research skills have an explanation for that?

There's an alive-and-well real runnin' Gremlin at ASU West. Somebody's daily driver. ;D

I think you just "donated" someone's Gremlin for parts. ;D

Humidity? Rust? I'm guessing that the Southwest in general is kinder on cars than the rainier climates (Atlanta's drought spell notwithstanding).

Plus....we don't turn 'em into flower pots in the front yard. ;D

True, but those cement saguaros are starting to irritate me.

(Spoken as an ASU Sun Devil who has a daughter who is a native Arizonan)

Those of us in Baja Arizona won't hold that against ya! ;D

You should see our cell towers!

Ah, yes, the ever-popular Telephone Tree, disguised in the Southwest to look like a palm tree. The dates they produce look a lot like rivets.

Which are a good source of minerals. Lots of iron. ;D

There are a lot of ugly things you can say about the state of radio today. You can attribute them to stations getting rid of the best and the brightest to save money in the short term and lose an audience in the long term. Getting rid of "Eduardo" is like chopping off a foot so you only have to buy one shoe.
Man, I wish you the best, and want you to know I thoroughly enjoyed reading your website (www.americanradiohistory.com).
Maybe your release will make it easier for you to head east before the big quake hits LA. While wages are lower in the southwest, the cost of living is too. Come on over to the dry side...but you'll still find the same idiots in charge at most radio stations.

May a new opportunity fall in your lap!
