I was also told the flip was a direct result of people in high places reading this board, YES, its true, this board was read and many posts were given much thought. Believe it or not, this board helped make this flip possible. At least there is an alternative to Pierre, the station will do well and we have something else to hear in the malls. I wish them well....and much success.

I think you're giving this site too much credit. This was ClearChannel's knee-jerk reaction to seeing WMMR in the top spot once the PPM ratings came out, not some grassroots effort to get Alternative back on the air.

I dunno anyone knew when they flipped to Spanish it would not work and there was a hole for Rock.....but they ignored it, its when we all started to write and express ourselves on this board they finally got the message. It was good to hear the Verve on the T-band once again.....now what happens to YSP???

This will flop for sure...Modern Chicken Rock? Give me a break. The only reason WMGK gets away with playing Chicken Rock is because that older demo hasn't abandoned terrestrial radio for ipods and satellite yet. But the younger crowd is long gone from terrestrial.

Sounds like they are only getting their feet wet with this format. They need to dive in full force with active or alternative or get out of the water.

who from ClearChannel is ever on this board? moreover, why does anyone from that company have any reason to take us seriously here?

Just because we're littering this message board with our whining doesn't mean this flip was a direct result of that. Because of the timing, though, I can see why it would appear that we had some influence.

With all due respect, I highly doubt the suits at clear channel met in a room and said "the message board folks want rock, so let's given em rock!!" It would be more like, how can we pull this off as cheaply as possible????

Most likely a flop, they'll play too few songs from too few years say 1999-2004 and cheap out on branding, advertising and on air talent. They will however, achieve their objective, to steal away some listeners from MMR and MGK-hell the station was in the dumper with the spanish format, anything will be an improvement numberwise!

Wouldn't it be funny if this new station's numbers were actually lower than Rumba's? Philly would be the first market to have a "negative numbers ratings" board. If it keeps going this way, they will have no choice.

Seems to be the Philly trend:

WPEN (Twice...numbers lower each format change)
WYSP
106.1 (Jazz to "Philly" and "My")
104.5 (When they switched from Sunny)
1210 (Talk to oldies)
WFLN (Classical to Mix, Ben, Whatever)
Y100 (Rock to Thugz)
1540 (Oldies to Foreign Language)
WHAT (Talk To Rock)
WWDB-FM (Talk to "The Point at which there was no return")
990 (Oldies to Disco...lower...Disco to Gospel...lower yet)

And weren't there more Spanish listeners to the old 860 than there are to the new WWDB?

It's a disgrace.

ThoseRRRRs, do you get on writing things like "Rock to Thugz"...Why couldn't you just say "Urban" as the format, since you seemed to mention the other formats on the other stations you listed?

Why couldn't you just say "Urban" as the format, since you seemed to mention the other formats on the other stations you listed?

Two reasons. It goes without saying that the artists themselves have a self-created "thug" image, and the term "urban" music is insulting to more 'cultured' individuals who for monetary reasons are forced to live temporarily in less desirable neighborhoods.

What's so difficult about that?

(Your screenname, bigoldbooty, is probably more insulting to certain individuals than my post about 'thugz')

Actually, my screen name is for 2 reasons. My name is BOB, which is what it spells out if you take the first letters of each word. The other reason is that I am big, I am old (in my 40s), and i have a big ass. If anything, it sould be more insulting to myself than anyone else.

But in fairness, I see your point, however, the correct format (as labeled by radio programmers across the country) is Urban, not "Thugz"

Sadly, I'm a few hours late to this - but I have to say it:

I TOLD YOU SO!

It's a bit early to see how 104.5 works out, but I give CC credit for figuring out that they made a big mistake with choosing Rumba over rock. The demos were never, ever right and no one was listening.

I knew it wouldn't last, but I figured atleast a year.

Hey, where are all those people who kept saying rumba is hear to stay (because in 20 years there will be enough of a base to make it a hit station, and clearchannel wanted to set it up now, so it would be another WUSL, and WDAS-FM)?
