Thanksgiving Parade on NBC

I can't believe NBC did not report on the balloon accident and the two people injured during the Macy's parade. Matt Lauer and Katie Couric are supposed to be NBC News correspondents, even if the parade coverage is produced by the Entertainment Division. Instead the kept reading their inane scripts (who writes this junk any way?) and participated in the cover up.

Does Macy's control the content of the parade broadcast? Is the parade just one huge infomercial orchestrated by their PR department and they kept a real news story during the parade off the air? Shame on all of them.

NBC Didn't Report Accident During Parade

NEW YORK (AP) - During its live coverage of the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, NBC did not tell viewers that a giant balloon had caught on a street lamp and injured two sisters.

At the point in the broadcast when the "M&M's Chocolate Candies" balloon was supposed to have crossed the finish line, announcers Katie Couric, Matt Lauer and Al Roker stuck close to their scripts and the network ran footage of the balloon from last year's parade.

Couric told the audience they were seeing old footage and bantered with Lauer and Roker, but there was no further mention of the accident.

WNBC had a special report at about 12:30, well after 2 and 7 covered it on their noon newscasts.<P ID="signature">______________
