That Awful New U2 Song

Please, enough with the new U2 song, which remarkably sounds like every other U2 song. I've heard AAF, BCN, FNX, Rock 101, and 92.9 play it now, sometimes at the same time.

No new Guns N Roses either, what a drag.

And while I'm ranting about Boston rock radio, when did AAF steal ZLX's library?

I haven't heard it yet. Is it that bad? ;D

I think he's referring to "Get On Your Boots".

Not their greatest by any means, but not their worst ("Lemon" anybody?....)

Neither U(tube) nor Gunz 'n Hosers ever put out a "good" song.

Jus' sayin'

Oh come now! "November Rain" is neck and neck with the piano exit of "Layla" as THE all time classic...at least in my books! P=) ;D P=) ;D P=)
And "Patience" is no lightweight, either!

As a big U2 fan, I'll chime in and also agree that this song is nowhere near their finest hour. If I don't like humming a U2 song, then it shouldn't be a single...let alone the first single from a new album.

I won't hum 'Get On Your Boots.' It's 'un-hummable,' to coin a phrase.

That said, the rest of the album ('No Line on the Horizon') is very good and ought to earn U2 several more Grammy nominations in Feb. 2010. Whether they'll win or not is open for debate. But with a wheelbarrow-full of Grammys already, U2 is beyond worrying about such things.

i'm still undecided about the new album...with more time I might appreciate it more

I think if any writer dared to give the album a bad review, he/she would be drummed out of the rock critic union, probably by Saint Bono of Hewson himself.

I haven't liked much by this band since "Boy" but I did see both Paradise shows in '80/81. Keeping this on the radio track, I'm thinking about playing "Out Of Control" next week. Do their earlier/perhaps deeper album cuts get much airplay? Or is it all Joshua Tree and after?

Is that the best that you could come up with?

Weak.

"Get on your Boots" makes me not even want to listen to the rest of the album. HORRIBLE song to throw out as a first single.

there are at least 2 more singles off this record... Magnificent will be one of them.

When's the last time you remember the best single off a CD (album for you white-haireds) being released first? "Get On Your Boots," granted, is not the best single off the CD but it was good enough to garner respectable chart positions at 4 different formats. The new single, "Magnificent," has debuted at three formats a week before the official "add date." Want to check a real popularity poll? How about people voting with their money? At retail opening week, "No Line," debuted # 1 in the nation - and in every soundscan market in the country. A half million satisfied customers ain't too shabby. And how about the excitement they generated with their "Special Events" in LA, Chicago and Boston? Did you try to get into any of those? And how about Bono saluting radio for all they do - thanking radio at the Somerville Theatre show? You should be happy that radio is embracing an event, generating excitement - and that a band of U2's stature is giving radio the tools to generate some excitement. Like the CD or not, you should be happy when bands like this try to breathe some life into an industry that gasping for air. U2 - I hoist a Guiness in your general direction! And thank YOU!

GnR on the other hand...

Our PD was quoted in a magazine regarding the new U2 single and why it was not performing well yet.

K~

Yea, those champagne socialists get what they deserve and more....They're even screwing their own tour promoters straight into bankruptcy. Live Nation had to take out $19 million to pay off these greedy commie a-wipes who decided to cash out their shares right during an effin' global recession of all things. They couldn't wait a year or two until things turned around....So much for love, peace and fairness in the socialist world..It's a beautiful day in the moonbat nation.

Someone forgot their medication...

The thing with "Boots" very much reminds me of "Fly". As you may recall, "Fly" was the first single from Achtung Baby. Stations played it because it was all that they had to play. Once the album came off everybody jumped off "Fly". But I think the band did it intentially, so that "Fly" would at least get SOME play.

Van Halen did the same thing with "Poundcake"...
