First, what makes a radio station alternative? Is it playing bands like cold play, franz ferdinand, and the killers? Or is it playing bands and/or songs that don't get air play and are from various genres(which would include the content of the punk and metal show)?

I tend to lean to the second. I think 92.3 does also considering one day last week within 3 hours they played Hatebreed, Slayer, and Pantera (all metal bands) and yesterday Drop Kick Murphies (a punk band) was played twice within a few hours.

So, to answer the question I say yes they belong.
______________

I agree with Buc2. However, I DO NOT think that 923 needs to be playing Hatebreed and Slayer in regular rotation. That's the stuff they SHOULD have been playing when they were Xtreme radio. But I think that having a specialty show devoted to going deeper into those two genres of rock is a very "alternative" radio thing to do. Besides the metal show is on late night Sundays....does it really matter what is on late night Sundays...its a virtual ratings wasteland.
______________
