THATS's it, Mobile needs a New CHR!

Hello, it's been a while since my last post b/c I have not listened to radio in such a long time but have noticed recent flips on 104.1 and 106.5!

Ok I don't know first of all where the ratings of this old-time station, but there music selection blows.........Im talking about WABB! They need to expand on their airstaff and music selection. Its horrible......I don't know what you guys or y'all think or did you all stop caring? This is so sad. I say, Q100 go all CHR! WE need this and I think it can work in the Mobile/Pensacola area. I would flip it in a heartbeat. My dream is this:

Q100 flip to CHR:

Mornings: IDK...something local or syndicated....not the Morning guys---they are so annyoying. I would pick Matt McCoy over them in a heartbeat.

Middays- On-Air with Ryan Seacreast--or is this only a Clear Channel CHR show? If so, pick a professional dj not the WABB's.

Afternoons- Local. Make it a Star 94 type show...music and talk.

Nights- Snatch Reid from WABB....hes good but does not fit on such a small local CHR station in Mobile (WABB)....then Billy Bush for the late night shift....like Q100 in ATL....hey I like this!

Weekends: A good variety of local dj's during the weekend.

AT40/Billy Bush top 30 on Sat. Mornings or Sunday Mornings. Unlike WABB, we do not need AT40 2x on the same day. That to me, is just beyond me.

A hott-ass mix show on Friday nights and definetely Saturday nights.....WABB blows like shit..

The only comment I would like to inject into this conversation is that adding talk-heavy shows like Seacrest and a PM drive show similar to Star 94's Cindy & Ray may not be the best way to expand the music selection. On a show like Seacrest, the amount of music per hour is going to significantly decrease, so programmers would want to make sure that during his show the power currents are getting the most exposure.

Alex, I suggest you do a little research before making such tremendous suggestions. Q100 did do CHR before. Got their butt whooped. For a long period of time now, Q100 has not and will not matter in Mobile, no matter what they've tried. Matt McCoy, last I heard, was doing mornings there already. Pretty much a non factor.

As for the rest of your suggestions? You forget about a little thing called money. Not much coming in, and you can ask anyone there, for sure not a whole lot going out. So, getting Billy Bush or any other "professional" DJs is completely out of the question. Not only for WABB, but for any other possible competitors.

Reid is okay. He does standard night bits. Solid board work. But, isn't anything that will make people tremble with fear that he's in that slot....yet. With experience that COULD change.

Alex, every three to six months you decide to post your seasonly complaints about WABB. ENOUGH! They aren't going to change a damn thing to your liking, so just do us a favor and end it all*, would ya?

(*And by 'ending it all', I mean moving to another metro with a better CHR. Seriously dude, find something nice in your life to keep you grounded. Nobody gives two guanos about your complaints, we've heard them all before!)

Well My Friends

You will have to forgive me I don't know alot about the Mobile market. But apparently WABB has went down hill.

This New CHR does anybody know who to send packages to.

Who knows Dylan you and me might be car pooling down there.

Good luck again to everybody  who is out of a gig for right now.

I had a strip club jock tell me "radio will be dead in 10 years" I told him we will survived everything that has

come our way and we can come play in his world but he can't come into ours ;D

Keep sending those packages out its gonna turn around for us.

Well, WABB knows obviously they are not doing what they should be doing......so they at least should even try fix the problems! Their studios is located in a bad part of the town if you wanted to know......I dont think they care really what the hell they are doing! Sorry to complain.

Alex, the more you talk the more ignorant you appear. First, WABB is still pulling very good numbers no matter how bad you think they are. I agree, they are as vanilla as a chr can get. But if they are still pulling numbers, they aren't going to fix anything. There isn't any reason to until there actually is competition that is yanking the rug out from underneath. Don't hold your breath for that. there is no way anyone is flipping at least this year.

Second, they are in a bad part of town? Sure, Springhill Ave. has it's spots, but where they are isn't one of them. Until they have a body discovered behind the dumpster, or someone is shot next to the property (both have happened at properties I have worked at), I'd say they have it pretty okay. Unless you want me to take you on a tour to properties around the country where you'd be crying for your mom once you see where they are located.

I suggest you start researching before shooting off at the mouth from now on. You look like a moron.

You look like a moron.

No need for the unprofessional language. Alex's points have already been either disproven or disagreed with...so just tell him where you think he's wrong.

I don't mind radio po boy's comments simply for the fact that Alex has established a pretty reliable pattern of complaining about one particular Mobile station. Check his posting history. We sort of got the message the first few times he whined. We get it, you don't like WABB. Now buy an iPod, snag a Zune, or subscribe to Rhapsody--and then kindly leave us the hell alone about how you think 97.5 sucks.

I'm also guilty of this but my past complaining was about the lack of modern rock in northern Alabama after 2005. I'm not going any further because I've already discuss/complain about this subject many, many times before.

As far as Q100 flipping to CHR, this was tried nearly 20 years ago. WJLQ targeted Mobile and WABB's audience extremely aggressively. I remember driving through in April, 1991 and hearing WJLQ's contesting: If the caller could say "WABB SUCKS!" 10 times in 10 seconds, they won the prize!

But it didn't work. One reason is because WJLQ will *always* be thought of as "a Pensacola station" in the listeners' minds. The other reason is because WABB has been a heritage CHR forever. The radio landscape is littered with carcasses of those who have attempted to take on a heritage station and failed.

Having said that, Q100 should flip to *something.* It's a shame to see a huge signal like this doing so poorly in both Pensacola and Mobile.

I lack the proof, but I have to believe the late "K-104" (WYOK after a move from Moss Point's 104.9 to Atmore's 104.1) was the best fight 93BLX has ever gotten. Their sound was great, IMO--the listening experience seemed to be newer and fresher to a high school senior schlepping around in a Taurus with bald tires. :D I'll point out that WYOK featured Pat Garrett imaging AND the late Ray-Ray Russell first before 'BLX got them. K-104 didn't fail so much as it was shut down by Cumulus, who bought both hip-hop stations.

Agreed 100%. I'd heartily suggest something I've suggested several times before--but then I'd become alex4490 ;D

Do you pay by the word or by the hour? I'm not sure I'd lose out either way.
