If someone gave you a 100,000 watt FM station in Birmingham and said you could program anyrhing you wanted to on it, and it didn't matter if it made a dime or not, what would you program?

Bored, huh? :) I'll bite:

"Birmingham's Talk Alternative, 93.3 WBMG"

  • 5-9 am The Nate Wesley Morning Show
  • 9-11 am Dan Patrick
  • 11-12pm The BlazerTalk Radio Hour
  • 12-3pm 2 Live Stews
  • 3-6pm Ed Schultz
  • 6-8pm The Rachel Maddow Show
  • 8-11pm Mike Malloy
  • 11pm-5am Sporting News Radio
  • 93.3 HD2: Full simulcast of Air America Radio

Hey, you said it didn't matter if it made money. :D

i would program wjld style circa 1965-70. pop & soul 5 am til noon, soul/r&b afternoon til 10pm. pop & soul til midnight, midnight til 5 am blues & comedy.

Sean Hannity from Noon to Midnight, Rush Limbaugh from Midnight to Noon.

Mark Levin on Weekends

Now who would say that would make any money? I can show you a few who run more HD Alliance spots than real ones during their "shows." PSA's, too.

Hmm Lets see I would say a CHR Rhymic give the Q and JAMZ a run for their money and I would steal the talent from all over the Market ;D

5:00 to 10:00 AM Big Boys Neighborhood

10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Mary K

3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. - The Shady Nation

7:00 to Midnight - Young Dill or Nick Nice

you mean like.....101.1 FM? LOL

Um....i'm thinking i'd go ahead and try to put something up like lightning 100 in nashville or 92zew in mobile....AAA format (if you wanna call it that anymore) cause frankly, here in north alabama, that's very much untapped.

Wonder if reg would do a coffee house show....or would let us reair old ones....like american top 40 reairs...lol

that'd be a good feature.

i'd also have the old x's vintage vault back.

Either a resurrection of the old pre-Citadel The X or start over fresh with a new real alternative rock station. By that I mean none of this modern rock or even active rock pretending to be alternative.

Northern Alabama definitely needs one of these stations imo, even if it's less than 100,000 watts.

You've totally stolen my idea for WQEM 101.5, purchased from my mythical revenues from WBMG. :D

AAA could work in Birmingham, in my humble opinion, but Ì'm not sure the format would be very viable on a 100kw station. But it's great to dream!

From a personal standpoint, the only formats I feel like I could realistically have a go at would be a true classic rock or a "Sunny" type station with little modern music - in other words formats very few would listen to in that area.

To expound on my earlier idea of news/talk, I'd mix syndicated talk shows with local ones and have build a news department from the ground up and do 100% locally produced live-read news breaks. Oh, and as much of a fan of Opie & Anthony as I am, I'd probably lure Richard Dixon back from Tampa to do a morning show instead.

Let's see... I'd grab Boortz, reintroduce Clark Howard to give ol' Dave Ramsay a run for his money, put on the new Mike O'Meara show from DC... Then who knows... I'm a fan of Coast to Coast overnights but even in this fantasy we know Clear Channel's got a lock on them and Rush.

I'm not sure what could fit in between 7pm-overnights. Maybe some Air America programming or some other late-evening man-talk show.
