The 102.9 KISS FM & 107.3 WCGQ CHR War in Columbus from 1985 - 1989

I was just wondering if anyone remembered the 102.9 KISS FM (Now ROCK 103) & 107.3 WCGQ CHR wars in Columbus, GA from 1985 - 1989. I worked at BOTH stations and was part of the 1989 WCGQ crew that forced KISS to change to ROCK 103, which was a better move for them. Both stations had INCREDIBLE talent. It was a GREAT rivalry. Reminded me a lot of the old Z93 and 94Q wars in Atlanta. I wished there were more "CHR Competitions" like those around today! I would also go on to work for Dave "Don't Call me LOVE SLAVE" Nolin at Sunny 100 until I left Columbus in 1992. Lee McCard, Al Haynes, Alan DuPriest, Ralph Carroll, Joe McClure, Mark Ross, James Steele, Brian Waters, Dave Kelley, Mike O'Connor, Bob McGhee, Bear O'Brian, Phil "Hurricane" Carter, Andy Woods, The LATE Chuck Harris, I am sure I left some folks out, were all TREMENDOUS talents and most went on to have great careers in LARGER markets. Prior to working with Dom Theodore at ISLAND 106 in Panama City, FL & doing battle with WPFM, the KISS - WCGQ Wars were the BEST I had ever had the HONOR & PRIVILEDGE to be a part of. I just wondered if anyone remembered the KISS - WCGQ Competition!

I remember 107 from when I'd listen in on the way to Callaway Gardens. They had AT40 and it was neato. 102.9 had a heck of a morning crew but they experimented with "Friday Night Rocks" and "Saturday Night Rocks" which evolved from metal and New-Wave/Classic Rock to metal and Classic Rock. It was probably just as well they changed to Rock 103 as the Top 40/CHR format started to die a few years later. I still have tons of airchecks- many composites- from "Friday/Saturday Night Rocks". In my tape library I have the "Wipeout" that the 102.9 morning crew did in 1987. Fun times.

Who can forget Willie Lee McGee in the dumpster?
