The 2006 Grammy nominations were announced this week, and that inspired me to announce my own awards--The 2005 Sexy Awards. These are the best of the music industry, as heard on Atlanta radio:
Best Rap Group: Ying Yang Twins. YYT busted it out with multiple hits in 2005, from "Wait" to "Shake" to the Mike Jones collaboration "Badd."
Most Bad Ass Rapper: A-town's own Chris Bridges, aka Ludacris. Luda killed it with "Get Back" and other hits, and he broke into cinema this year ("Crash").
Best Pure Rapper: Kanye West. What sophomore jinx? West's second album, "Late Registration" is still climbing the charts, and "Gold Digger" is one of the top tracks of the year.
Best Rap Album: "Massacre" by 50 Cent. Massacre blew up huge, with hits like "Disco Inferno," "Just A Little Bit," "Candy Shop" and many more.
Best Male Vocalist: Jamie Foxx! Not only is he an Academy Award winning actor, Foxx has the best voice this side of Ray Charles!
Best Female Vocalist: Mariah Carey. Girlfriend not only went multiplatinum again, but she is also Comeback Artist Of The Year.
Best Pop Album: "The Emancipation of Mimi". See Above.
Best Ballad: "We Belong Together", by Mariah Carey. This could very well be the biggest hit in a career filled with big hits.
Best Pop Song: "My Humps," by the Black Eyed Peas. Can you argue with anybody who has those "lovely lady lumps?"
Record Of The Year: "Gold Digger," by Kanye West. This also gets a nod as the most contagious song of the past 20 years.
Song Of The Year: "Gold Digger," by Kanye West. This award, like the Grammies, is given for song lyrics. "....she got you for 18 years, and on his 18th birthday, YOU FOUND IT WASN'T HIS????" Gold Digger proves that Kanye West is one of the most brilliant song writers in history.
