I don't want to catastrophise here, but I think we may finally be seeing the Foxification of KTVU. Fox has been slow to mess with the winning formula that has been KTVU, and that has been a good thing, IMO. But yesterday, I was in the waiting room of my dentist, which was showing a KTVU 4:00 newscast called "The 4 on 2." In front of a backdrop of San Francisco Bay were the 4 anchors and reporters doing an informal chat-style newscast. I assume the title is a steal from Fox News' "The Five." Unlike The Five, it is not a political debate style show, thankfully. It's certainly a departure from the typical staid KTVU standard news format with the regulation "KTVU News at ____" titles.
Hopefully, this is not a harbinger of the return to the silly "Happy Talk" news formats of the 70s. In the Bay Area, KTVU in the early 80s was the first station to reject happy talk for the widely acclaimed Ten O'clock News.
