The 5 most ENTERTAINING people on Boston Radio...

I thought I would see how this thread differs from the 5 most Respected people(I figure it should be a lot different)...they could be on in any daypart.

Loren and Wally (they have it down to a science)
Matty (witty)
Karen Blake (she always make me laugh)
Glen Ordway (his show is crazy)
Steve Laveille ( I enjoy his topics and I love it when he gets ticked off at a caller)

1) O & A. They sound like they are still having fun doing radio.

2) Charles Laquidara. Even though he is retired, he keeps popping up again and again.

3) Howie Carr. Rarely right but never boring.

4) The Biscuit. WZLX was dead wrong to let her go. They should have fired the morning show and kept her.

5) Greg Hill, but I'm liking him less and less every day. He seems to be fishing too much for what to say, and the 'ummmm... ah....' is getting to be too much. Is he pretending to be stoned or...

-Loren and Wally (although Loren's "ahhhhh's" and "ummmmm's" are annoying as hell...as are their 36 live commercials per hour)
-Joe Martelle and the late Andy Moes on the "Joe and Andy" morning show on the original WROR (98.5)
-Karen Blake: I've grown to like her a little bit more each time I listen to her (but not always....and, her voice annoys me...but good sense of humor)

That's all I've got. Someone else can take 2 extra ;D

Lets keep this thread to people that are actually on Boston radio right now...and keep it fun and positive (we can do without mentioning Loren's Ahhh's and Ummm's...) list people you think are entertaining...period.

Though not from Boston, I'd like to chime in about how entertaining Loren Owens was when he worked in Philly and 95WPEN when they were oldies. His bits were quick and funny and took aim at Camden, NJ whenever he had the chance. Just chipping in my 4 cents

Don't overlook the left end of the dial, folks!

Call me a nerd, but I cast my vote for Bill Littlefield (NPR's Only a Game) and Charlie Pierce (NPR's Only a Game & Wait Wait Don't Tell Me). Both national shows, but both local to Boston via WBUR. Although I think Charlie flies out to Chicago to tape WWDTM. And of course, the Car Talk guys: Tom & Ray Magliozzi...straight from Our Fair City. Actually the more I listen to Tom & Ray the more bored I get. But they still make me chuckle at least a few times each hour. On another tack, I rather like the pieces Sean Cole does for WBUR's Inside Out & APM's Marketplace (also on WBUR)...I find them entertaining, albeit in a more informative sense than a "laugh out loud" sense.

Anyone ever caught Alexandra Rousseau on WZBC? She DJ's Melody du Jour on Friday mornings, and while her style isn't really "funny", her taste in music (and accent while announcing it) are quite excellent, nonetheless. And I find myself laughing out loud at some of the talk shows on college radio...although usually it's because the show is some left-wing loony bin spouting off some insane drivel you can't help but laugh at. Heh...considering I'm an NPR fan...that says something, don't it? ;)

Well aren't we just a little bit picky ;D ;D ;D

I rather enjoy Hamilton on WBCN. I don't get to hear him as much with the time change. Adam 12 has gotten a bit more, how do you say, surly. He's always seemed like a cool guy on-air. Maybe it's just that I haven't been listening much. Chuck Nowlan on WZLX is always great.

I'll probably catch a lot of flack for my choices..but this is what i tune into most (and i am not including syndicated shows like o& a even though i believe they are on top of their game)

BCN airstaff - even though the same 150 songs get recycled, it's the dj's that keep me tuning in day after day...adam 12, hardy and roadsteamer (who make a great straight guy/funny guy combo for that time slot), and hamilton

Mike Hsu - even though i find myself listening to AAF less and less...mike still has a way of being cool

Kenny young - ZLX's night guy, very underrated and often overlooked

Glen ordway - does anyone handle a talk show better than him? his breakdown of sports is amazing, although sometimes all the yelling hurts my head

jackson blue - Kiss 108's night guy...perfect fit for that station, and just all around good

extra bonus points head out to: Neaderpaul, and quinn and cantera

1. Kenny Young WZLX, Great nite jock. With a sense of humor.
2. Sauce WZLX, he does weekend overnights. I enjoy his 'Look What I Found In My Back Pocket ' Segment after
3am on Saturday mornings. Usually its deep tracks from Pink Floyd.Hopefully he'll put some Led Zeppelin from The BBC Sessions . His segment tends to lean towards longer tracks.. Just a thought:)
3. Chuck Nolin WZLX. The man is good on the afternoons. And when he filled in for the morning show.

It is interesting that all three have been with the station since before the last two PDs. Other than insert his voice all over the promos, what has their new PD done over the past six months?

Since it appeared shortly after he came in, I'd imagine he added the "Hottie Of The Day" feature to their website.

1- Jordan Rich. Brings up engaging topics ranging from movies & television to local hotspots to politics.

2- Steve Laveille - Good for a late-night chuckle.

3- Howie Carr - He knows how to put on an entertaining show.

4- Tom Ashbrook - I'm not a huge fan of his sound, but he brings up interesting topics. He does a national show produced by WBUR.

5- Gil Santos and Gino Cappaletti - Yes, Lucy, they sometimes stumble over words (and facts), but Gil's unabashed love of the Patriots shows why local radio broadcasts are such an important altrnative to the vanilla tv and radio network announcers.

But those sweaters have to go ;D

Can you really count Gil and Gino as entertaining Boston radio people? Were it not for the patriots neither would really be on radio. Gil essetially reads what is happening in sports without much more than a "this is what's happening" perspective. It's also interetsing how quickly some are referred to as legendary largely because they ahev beena round a very long time. Gil I would say is pretty legendary but Im speaking generally.
