7. CBS RADIO Alternative KROQ/LOS ANGELES: $42 million

C'mon now, no interest for alternative rock, audience too fickle, my foot...

KROQ had decades of heritage during which they have nurtured the music, created a lifestyle and learned how to deal with the highly Hispanic audience in LA. No comparison with NYC.

Of course not, what was I thinking! Let's talk about WEMP, or a rewound weekend, playing the hits from 50 years ago! Such a forward thinking business...

David made no comments about the success or lack thereof of alternative or rock in NYC. He's pointing out that you can't look at KROQ and say that'll work anywhere. That's like saying "WCBS works in NYC, why doesn't it work everywhere?!"

Apples and oranges. Every market is unique, every station is unique. It's the art of the business.

And the #1 billing station in the country was All News, WTOP in Washington, D.C. with $64 million. They were up last year from $57.2 million and they are an FM station.

KROQ is #7 in the country with average ratings in LA.
They should be handing out Marconi Awards to that sales staff.

KROQ averages in the top 5 18-34 and 18-49... it's nice 25-34 core is both well populated with males and also very good in reaching a market-balanced Hispanic and non-Hispanic audience. It's got to be among the easier sales in the market... not too young, not too old... a good balance of cume and TSL... a format that is needed to improve any reach and frequency analysis, etc., etc. Oh, and advertiser familiarity based on three decades of history.

Aren't KROQ and 91X in San Diego the only Rick Carroll-consulted stations (or imitators of Rick Carroll's version of modern rock) that are still doing modern rock 30 years later?
