The 92.3 Now FM DJ Lineup will be....?

How would everyone warm up to the possibility of Star & Buc Wild being the morning co-hosts on 92.3 NOW?

I think Star voluntarily ended the show due to a kidney ailment (I forget all the details), but this duo surely has name cred in New York.

Having previously done AM drive on Hot 97, Power 105.1 and Pulse 87, this would be their third New York radio station!

Thoughts?

Star and Buc makes sense. Sounds logical, so CBS won't do it.

And if they're shooting for a young demo they might be a little too sophisticated.

Dude... they are not going for the "Rhythmic" CHR vibe on NOW...I'm guessing the staff will be lilly white. Look for Booker to do mornings... another ultra white host in PM drive. Don't look for Vic Latino either. They want to go after Z straight up... not KTU.

CBS most likely won't do it since they would likely want to keep costs down, might go the syndication or VT route. Star and Buc fit the Rhythmic and Urban formats well, not CHR. CBS is going after Z-100, not Hot 97, or Power 105.1.

Why do people keep saying Booker will get the morning gig? This guy has NEVER made the needle move ANYWHERE. If Now wants to be truly competitive against Elvis Duran, they are going to make a truly out-of-the-box hire for mornings. At least, Star & Buc Wild would make noise. Booker??? Not only does he not get ratings, he's incredibly boring and unfunny.

That said, hiring Mojo from Detroit would be a dumb move too. Mojo is like a smaller market version of the Z100 Morning Show. And Lisa Paige is a predictably boring choice. "She lives the lifestyle of CHR". C'mon...1995 called, they want their programming philosophy back. How are they going to beat Z100 (or even take a chunk out) by trying to SOUND like Z100. They should be taking cues from Tampa's Power Pig (circa 1989). It's time to be fearless CBS.

GIVE ME SOME INTERESTING, FUN TO LISTEN TO JOCKS!!!

Dom's going to fall flat on his ass with this one.

Though one could make the argument that Booker does have experience doing morning drive on a CHR in New York. Anyone remember "Booker & Lopez" on Blink?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Bueller?

But as the above poster points out, Booker, as Michael Klein of the Inquirer put it, will now be sitting home being paid to shut up by two companies now (he was unceremoniously fired in Philly last year despite good ratings... yes, he actually got good ratings in Philly).

Vic Latino would never happen anyway. He is the "VC" in JVC Broadcasting, which makes him an owner of Party 105.

Now, Star & Buc Wild?

BRING IT!!

Let's put it this way, I was very skeptical (just like most people) when the show went on Pulse 87 since they had strictly catered to the young urban crowd in the past with Hot and Power. Yet with Pulse, mainly hitting up a crowd of Latinos and Italians from the Hot 103/97 (as dance) days, somehow it just worked! The Pulse situation proved that Star wasn't just a "one trick pony".

So what the "Star & Buc Wild" show doesn't follow "format". I mean, Howard Stern and the audience on K-Rock fit perfectly. Yet you had the same crowd in other markets tune in to Stern, via syndication, on stations that were NOT ROCK. Providence's Kix 106 (WWKX) was the perfect example. Stern was on in the mornings, but the station in itself is HIP-HOP/R&B! (Providence's version of a Hot 97!). It was weird hearing "liners" by hip-hop artists hyping the Howard Stern show on that station!

Maybe Star's style requires one to have a "brain" since they dive into controversial issues that teenagers wouldn't necessarily understand. But the show is quality entertainment!

BRING THEM ALL BACK!!!
:)

I'm glad Tony shares the same opinion with me as far as Star & Buc go, and I'm also glad he didn't take offense to the hidden dig I took at Pulse in my above post! (Either that or he didn't read it closely...) ;D

Who else was let go from Krock? I just saw one name who helpped with O&A morning show.

Also it is interesting that CBS is looking for DJS already for 92.3 Now when they first have to play 10,000 songs in a row. Have they started looking for DJS for AMP Radio 97.1 LA yet?

Honestly, Star & Buc Wild would be the only interesting choice for mornings on Now. You need a show that's going to MAKE NOISE and be a smarter, edgier alternative to the very broad Elvis Duran show. In fact, that goes for the entire airstaff. They will NOT be able to be competitive with Z100 by hiring a bunch of Z100 clones. They will NOT be able to beat Z at their own game. They're going to have to stand OUT. That said, Star & Buc Wild and, to a (much) lesser degree, Big Boy from Channel/Detroit (if the rumors are true) are good hires to get the ball rolling. They break rules. You need rule breakers on this format. Not for the sake of breaking rules, but to stand OUT from the polished excellence of Z100.

Regarding Lisa Paige...This whole "you gotta live the lifestyle" bullshit is so played out. This ain't KDWB in 1998. This is NYC in 2009! PDs/VPs need to stop shoveling this image-oriented crap down our throats and start giving us INTERESTING personalities. Z100 has the image-oriented radio "thing" down. Forget about image, forget about "lifestyle"...

JUST BE INTERESTING!!!

Boywiththorninside....

I think I'm in love with you!!!! Are you straight? Are you married? If you are ever in Houston please look me up!!!!

Amp in L.A. will have jocks in place once the whole 10,000 songs in a row are over. CBS is very good at hiring great talent.
To those that knock Lisa Paige, they're probably either competitors in the business hoping who are jealous and hope to be hired instead, or guys who forget that CHR focuses on 18-34 females first and foremost. She does a good job of relating to the core CHR audience, it's as simple as that.
Shelly wade would obviously almost make for a natural candidate (maybe to be paired up for morning drive?), as would Silly Jilly from 103.5 Kiss FM Chicago.
I think hiring Big Boy would make for a good choice - if I'm not mistaken he's originally from Miami, and you can kinda tell he's influenced by the Power 96 school of thought.

I think Silly Jilly would be a better fit for nights on Now in NYC. Jilly is infinitely more interesting than Lisa Paige. Just because one has a vagina, doesn't mean you automatically relegate that person to middays.

It's a totally antiquated way of thinking and EXACTLY why this industry is in trouble. The same 1991 programming philosophy being used in 2009.

Why put on a female Ryan Seacrest to counter-program AGAINST the real thing?

Your comments about Silly Jilly are spot on - she'd be great for nights, or any shift really.
Even though you don't seem to be a fan of Lisa Paige I completely agree that she's in the same vein as Ryan Seacrest...and that's why I'm sure she'd do well. CHR female listeners of this generation love a Ryan Seacrest type of jock on their station. the difference would be that Lisa would be live in New York whereas On Air with Ryan Seacrest isn't - it just takes bits and pieces from his 102.7 KIIS FM morning show.

CHRLes, please don't pull the 'you're a bitter jealous rival' BS!

For starters.. CBS is very good at hiring great talent? Who? Radio Chick? Booker (third or fourth time)? Kidd Chris? JV and Elvis? Danny Bonaduce? David Lee Roth? Everybody on K-Rock and WYSP since Howard left?

Lisa Paige is a no-talent news reader. Anybody can relate to 18-34 females by reading the top stories on Us, People, TMZ, and Perez. Her speech is so forced and loud... it's like squawk squawk squawk! A 25 year old gay guy would do her job 10,000 times better, with humor, personality and a ton of flair!!!!

Oh I caught the "dig"

(Whistling and walking away) ;)

No VT'd robojocks, one that is in NYC and talks NYC style radio

Haven't heard about the "Power Pig" in awhile. They should take cues not only from what the pig was back in the day, but they should take a cue from how Power 96 in Miami sounded back in the day. I'm not trying to say old school, but be creative and have no fear like both those stations did. Those stations had nothing to lose then and 92.3 Now has nothing to lose.

It would, however, be amazing If Big Boy and Mojo were both pulled from Detroit and plopped down in New York.

Talk about killing WKQI.
