The aftereffects of WFMX's move.

With all due respect, Matt, I doubt the average listener cares who owns a station. It is unlikely that former WFMX listeners will ban CC stations from their selection. Its all about playing the music and providing the services. Doesn't matter who the owner is. I would venture to say that the majority of listeners of any station have no clue who the owner is!

I wonder how many phone calls WSIC has been receiving about WFMX? For those within listening range, has there been on-air discussion or references to WFMX on WSIC?

Anyone with a class c could now take TQR down...Toby (Sorry Aunt Eloise) is way over, sounds more like a guy all the time, there's no one there that has any clue of how to fight a format competitor or has the will. Everyone is so busy voice tracking they wouldn't have time or energy for the battle...someone ought to get Nemenz to come back and tear down the station he built into a powerhouse. Wasn't he the one who brought Big Paul in?

In light of all this, wouldn't it have made more sense to let WFMX remain country and flip WTQR instead?

What?!?!? you have got to be kidding! You would keep a station that has had virtually no ratings in the market and change the format of the station that has been #1 or #2 for the last 25 years? I don't know what you've been smoking, but stock up on it, cause it's some good sh__!

While WTQR is not what is used to be, it is still the #1 biller in the market! All you have to do is fix it!

Yes, it was Nemenz who brought Big Paul to TQR - but it was also Nemenz who presided over the decline of TQR from it's dominant, double digit leadership as a full service station that happened to play country music into a country music station that provides a little service.

yeah...if you think flipping FMX caused a stink.....

XTalker you're right, things have really changed. It's all about the money. The NY executives don't care about quality radio. Cash flow is the name of the game. I also agree about the quality of the dope your smoking if you want to change the TQR format.

I still think if anyone here is smoking dope, Clear Channel Greensboro must have been seriously stoned when they picked the format they did for the "new" WFMX. I agree with the people who said CC should have gone after 107.5 KZL, especially if they're going to name the station "Kiss-FM." Going after Entercom's 97.1 QMG, especially after having already failed in the previous CC-Entercom showdown between WGBT and 102 Jamz, is just plain stupid. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear "Kiss-FM" is a playlist similar to KZL's in the Triad or G105's in Raleigh.

Berlin-201, I have to agree with you on the name of the "Kiss" station. It conjures up a CHR station, especially since the market had a CHR Kiss before. However, I think it was the best format they could have chosen. For once, CC actually got this one right. WQMG has been a ratings and revenue leader in the market for quite some time. That means there's room for a second format of that type. Although WGBT wasn't extremely UN-successful, they couldn't compete against 102 JAMZ because of the street presence required (in my opinion). Entercom really has that market covered. I don't think Urban AC requires the same kind of "livin the lifestyle" commitment that 102 Jamz does. Plus, CC will always look to a format that can complete their "National" cluster. Now, when they sell CC Greensboro as a package to the big National clients, they have WTQR for the Country lifestyle, WMAG for the women, WVBZ for the men, WGBT (or whatever the hell call letters they are today) for the Hispanic, and the Kiss station for the Urban. They can say they have the entire market covered! WQMG has just been sitting there fat and happy for years with no competition, raking in the bucks.

WGBT didn't realllly do that badly considering the station was brand new and still climbing when they pulled the plug. I think CCs problem with these kinda formats is the sales and promotions staff. You can't just plug in the same ol folks and expect them to give 2 cents about a station that plays "that music"......

Yes, CCX, 94.5 is still WGBT; CC kept those calls even after The Beat flipped to La Preciosa, rather than changing calls again like they did from WXRA (rock) to WWCC (country) to WGBT (The Beat).
