Has WFYL am-1180 taken to the air? do its 420 watts reach center city? is it business talk --- going against am860--WWDB? seems they could get more day power. likely none at night due to WHAM on am1180.

is AM1180 aimed at the rich folks on the main line? why build a station on a frequency that likely will never offer night service? the owner must have lots of $$$ to spend. says it took him 9 years to put this new station on. if he had $$$ he does not need he may contact me.

OK---- simple question---- is am1180 on the air or not? (WFYL)

WFYL-1180 is on the air!

WFYL, AM1180, licenesed to King of Prussia, signed on the air this morning at 9:27AM, with the help of West Norriton Township commisioners. I was allowed to attend the sign-on festivities (even got Radio-Info an on-air plug!!!) and have posted pics on Yahoo Photos: http://photos.yahoo.com/frankie985/wfyl.

The opening ceremonies/sign-on will be reboradcast at 12P, 3P and 6P, as well as various times throughout the rest of this week, perhaps at high noon.

The station is located in a converted "historical" house at the entrance to Jeffersonville Golf Course, with Valcom whip antenna on the greens. The transmission unit is locate in a pump house on the course and is remote controlled by dial-in (the onsite engineer/board op was using a cellphone).

Programming will originate from the National Radio Network (which I believe Langer runs) but will feature local-original programming starting next month.

(And yes, Paul, I did get the right pictures of the facilities this time.....LOL)

So you guys get to "experience" the living legend 92 year old George Putnam!! (I think he's on 9 am - 11 am EDT) Have fun!

Probably the same way WBUX was able to become WISP, even with a WYSP in the area.

The FCC generally stays out of messes like that.

Oh, goodie! Another obscure station with no listeners for people here to obsess about. With WAMS off the air, people need something to talk about.

Further proof of emacee's law: Number of posts is inverse to both audience and revenue.

:-[ So far the station is grim.
I tuned in around 2:10 and heard Alex Langer's (he the owner) "Outdoors show.
His guest was a gal from way south of the Mason-Dixon Line reporting from a ladies fishing tournament somewhere down there, and how great it was for the ladies.
Earlier , a female host had a guest discussing the positive virtues of yummy "Vegan" breakfast and lunch menus.
I'd rather listen to Barry Reisman discuss choclate covered pretzels on WNWR.
Whe Langer starts local programming (slim chance to say the least) some local Montgomery Cpounty news would be nice. I don't expect the quality of WNPV's local coverage, although that would be great; but perhaps a "mini" local news prescence which has been missing from this area since WNAR in Norristown became the Gospel Highway.

George Putnam

I take it all back.
This afternoon they were running the legendary George Putnam! ::)
