The All-Purpose Thread For My Station

Rather than keep updating an old thread I thought it best to start a new one in which updates and information are posted. First off,
a quick heads up to let everyone know I will be doing some broadcasting in live mode weeknights 8 - 11 p.m. or so, so tune in if you want to hear music with limited interruptions. Also, I do have Breakaway audio enhancer up and running for my processing, using the French Kiss preset, those of you who are familiar with it know it's a very "wet" and vintage sound. I just paid for another month of news from CBS news, I think that adds a very professional touch to things. And last but not least, I may be running some contests soon to give away some inexpensive goodies like CDs picked up cheaply and such.

Beyond that, I just want to once again thank everyone who has chimed in with feedback and suggestions. For however many hours a day I play DJ/station manager/program director, it's a real blast to know people actually listen.

Got it bookmarked. Listening a little bit before bedtime. Gotta work tomorrow and there might be 1-3 inches of fresh snow to drive through. At 4:15AM I'll be making first tracks.

Well, I was listening for a few minutes, but the audio kept freezing. One note would stutter/repeat for one or two seconds. I refreshed the page and now when I hit play a "chat with the DJ" pop up shows and the stream never starts.

Here's what's new:

1- I'm abandoning live mode for the most part because I had way too many dropouts. I may try again now and then.

2- I have begun adding full shows to the basic stream. There's a nice twist to this in that the Monday-Wednesday-Friday
shows will be in stereo while the Tuesday-Thursday shows are in mono with all songs mono versions. No more nasty fold-downs
of stereo mixes. The mono shows will lean more heavily towards 1950s and 1960s songs as post-1969 material is mostly stereo.
But there are a few nice surprises in store with some mono mixes of 1970s songs normally found in stereo.

3- The audio processing has been tweaked. Comments and questions are welcomed.

4- I'm using some of the Live365 sideloads as their library has some really cool mixes and edits from TM Century.

That's all for now. I do thank my listeners- TLH numbers are rising steadily for the station!

Regarding your "shows", I hope you are not making one large audio file with multiple songs mixed together, because that's a no-no. You need to make sure every song on your show is properly tagged.

Been awhile since I updated things so here's what's new:

1- Audio Processing tweaked again.
2- Playlist broadened up a little with a bit more late 1970s material.
3- When in basic mode, set lists run 43-45 minutes and rotate between all stereo songs and all mono;
one set of one and then of the other. I have begun to consider doing some live shows in real time; details to follow. Live365
sideload tracks will be used to fill in when I need to upload new tracks.
4- And this is THE big change. ALL music used on the station is now from uncompressed audio. I got a new
computer earlier this month and have been frantically ripping CD after CD as FLAC files. The improvement in
sound is worth the effort.

Well, look who's back. It's me. I have not had time to do anything with Live365 in close to a year, in fact, I killed the one station and started another. Link is in my signature. I am going to attempt to do some broadcasting in live mode today from 3 until 9 p.m. EDT. I finished a three hour show this morning, the first hour is in stereo and the other two hours are in mono. I have some very hard to find single mixes and edits. In Live mode I will be using Breakaway with the settings that create a sound that's close to that of an Orban 8100. It's not a perfect match but wow, it's close and I love it.

Now, let me be honest. Between the Live365 software and Breakaway I may be asking too much of my computer's CPU. If that's the case, the shows will be uploaded after being processed with something else. To get unbiased opinions on sound quality, I'm not going to say what that is just yet. It's not one of the usual suspects, though, I can say that much. It's not as good as Breakaway but I have had some compliments on its sound already so, fingers crossed.

That's the short version. If you are so inclined, read on for more.

The music library has been improved greatly. I have posted and also read posts on another forum where I can and do get amazing advice on what are the correct versions of songs and which have the best mastering. I've been ruthless in deciding which songs go and which stay, the playlists are about as tight as I can get them. And being away from it all for so long has let me approach it with fresh eyes and ears. On a personal note, I am halfway through a very competitive and demanding program in college at age 48. I mean, get up at 5:30 a.m. to be in class at 8 and not get home until 8-9-10 at night kind of demanding. I love it.
