The "AM-ization" of FM: Will it happen here?

I think a FM talk and sports are a waste of crisp fm signal.but if its going to be a money making hit.I'll say go for it.but as many said it wont do good here in CT.A full service FM with news and sports and weather on the hour or half hour.Music will make up the rest of the time.I like that formatLike AM in the old days.

Was looking at the proposed new 97.9 signal when it is up and running from City Place in Hartford and for a 3400 watt signal on a 600' foot stick, the "A" signal doesn't even reach New Haven. I guess it really is being nulled. As for this station being a music station, can anyone name for me a genre of music that isn't being played full-time in the Hartford-New Haven market now?? I will say this again, a city the size of Hartford should have a full-time progressive talk station or a hybrid progressive talk,AM/PM drive all news channel.

In the PPM era, it's been shown in market after market that there are a very limited number of musical formats that get ratings, and they're all very well represented in the Hartford and New Haven markets. What's left -- AAA, smooth jazz, classic country, '50s/'60s oldies, classical, "Jack"-style variety, standards, urban AC -- would be shunned by advertisers from the start.

>>I hope 97.9 becomes a simulcast of WPOP.

You may get your wish--see the thread "97.9, any whispers"--somebody heard ESPN 1410 may soon
simulcast on 97.9. I have no other evidence yet, other than what the person had heard on WHCN

There was a banner on 1410's website on Friday promoting the new 97.9 FM (it was in the middle of the page).

Off the cuff, it seems that format convergence has happened, with all the sources of audio entertainment available, i.e. radio, HD radio, satellite radio, streaming internet radio, etc.
Under these conditions, any format that fills a perceived need is fair game.
I also just read that Music of Your Life is making a comeback on AM radio. Could we ever see MOYL on FM radio, or an HD2 or HD3? Why not?
