THE ANIMALS HAVE IT!

Buffalo Gals (Won't You Come Out Tonight) - Malcolm McLaren

Time out for a bit of trivia, and the rest of the story:
Buffalo Gals is a traditional American song, written and published as "Lubly Fan" in 1844 by the blackface minstrel John Hodges. The song was very popular throughout the United States and was performed extensively by minstrels who often altered the lyrics to suit the local audience, so it might be performed as "New York Gals" in New York City or "Boston Gals" in Boston. The best-known version is named after Buffalo, New York, thus had nothing to do with that big old plains animal which almost reached extinction.

The chorus is:
Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight?
Come out tonight, Come out tonight?
Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight,
And dance by the light of the moon.

Mississippi Squirrel Revival - Ray Stevens

Simon Smith And His Amazing Dancing Bear - Randy Newman

Poor Butterfly - The Hilltoppers

Feed Jake - Pirates Of The Mississippi

I'm standing at the crossroads in life...
And I don't know which way to go...
You know you've got my heart, babe...
But my music's got my soul...
Let me play it one more time...
I'll tell the truth and make it rhyme...
And hope they understand me...

Now I lay me down to sleep...
I pray the Lord my soul to keep...
If I die before I wake... feed Jake...
He's been a good dog...
My best friend right through it all...
If I die before I wake...feed Jake...

A truly beautiful song, and a reminder for those of us who grew up with a wonderful canine family member who was always there so happy to see us home, cheering us with a wagging tail and a slobbery kiss, playful and loving without compromise. I miss my pals: Sugar (Collie), Midnight (Spaniel), Muffin (Border x), and Fancy (Min. Schnauzer). Today I have two loving gals, both Min. Schnauzers: Lacey 12 years old and Sassy 1-1/2 years old.

Tusk - Fleetwood Mac (okay, so it's only part of the animal, does it count?)

Just think of all the happy creatures that will be waiting for you when you get home to glory someday, GLB. True, veterinarian or taxidermist - either way you get your dog back. My critters dogs and cats alike (except for one cat) are all in their little urns, and I have not replaced any since my cat decided to break my heart a year and a half behind the dog. Besides, I am living light these days.

Thank you Silkie. :-*

Canine or feline - these creatures capture our hearts and bring smiles on cloudy days.

Cat Size - Suzi Quatro

(Someone help me with this one. Suzi sings of having a cat's eye, the plural being "cat's eyes" - but every reference I'm able to find lists "Cat Size." The Arista 4561 B-side single is published as "Cat Size." This is a mind bender for me.

Now I'm done playing with fools
And I've paid all my childhood dues
I find the mountain much steeper to climb
Am I just one of the crowd?

I decided a few days ago
There's no room. Room for me in this show
I changed my make-up completely this time
Now I'm not one...one of the crowd

So good-bye. Good-bye blind eyes
I'm gonna find me a cat's eye
Good-bye. Good-bye blind eyes
I know what I want to see

So good-bye. Good-bye blind eyes
I'm gonna find me a cat's eye
Good-bye. Good-bye blind eyes
I know what I want to be

Now I'm done playing the fool
And I've paid all my childhood dues
I find the mountain much steeper to climb
Now I'm not one...one of the crowd?

Pony Time - Chubby Checker
