The annual B98.5FM playlist changeout

Well, it is that time of year again. Cox flagship AC B98.5FM has changed portions of its playlist. They did so at 5:00 AM this morning (9/21).

It is sad when a station with such a small playlist maintains it so little that we have to mention it. It is like mentioning every time someone goes to the bathroom.

It looks like B98.5 is returning to its roots somewhat with it's playlist, although that is only 2 hours worth so far.

Now that their sister station the River is on, and has the same small playlist, how often that will get changed out.

Cox needs to reform their practices regarding playlists. With the possible demise of 94.9 on the way, they could become the only game in town (this has already happened in Tampa).

3 of Cox's stations are in the top 5. It seems to me that they know exactly what they are doing. The only people that know about the playlists are people that would frequent this board, whereas the vast listnership of staions are "John Q. Public"s and only know that when they tune the dial to any of Cox's stations, they will be able to sing the song that is on...

I think daveFM has a pretty vast playlist... how are their numbers?

Just out of curiosity (I am pretty uninformed on the subject) how many songs are the playlists for other stations in the Atlanta market?

Attaboy: you are correct, sir. Tight playlists work, in terms of Arbitron, which ultimately is all that matters. Broad playlists with lots of "variety" don't, except in extremely rare cases.

Even XM and Sirius have tightened their playlists.

oh yea..tom petty on b98.5..?? how times have changed.

This reminds me, I hopped in my car yesterday and daveFM was playing Tom Petty. I switch over to 96Rock...another Tom Petty song.

Yeah, I nearly killed myself on the spot.
