After 18 years in Myrtle Beach radio, Banana Jack Murphy called it quits. Many may remember Jack replaced Freakin' Deacon at WKZQ in 1989. After 12 1/2 years at WKZQ, Murphy replaced Howard Stern at Wave 104 in September of 2001.
Banana Jack's last day was April 17th, 2007. After 18 solid years, he was given one day's notice. Jack said farewell to his listeners and took the high road. It was a classy performance. He was replaced by the syndicated Free Beer & Hot Wings Show.
In several newspaper interviews and television appearances, he had the opportunity to slam Next Media for firing him, but declined.
Murphy can still be seen on River Talk with Jack Murphy that airs Monday though Friday on WWMB-TV 21 and also on HTC Cable.
Does anyone know if he's working on another radio gig?
