THE BATTLE IS HEATING UP BETWEEN 93Q AND KILT!

Have you been listening to either 93Q or KILT lately? For a long time 93Q has taken shots at KILT and now KILT is firing back. It's turning into a real good ole radio war. Who will win? Thoughts?

Haven't heard it; but, my guess is that it's a friendly turf war, started by the jocks. I guess we'll see.

We used to do something similar to this in a small market I worked in to get listeners talking to one another about the two stations, and calling their favorite station with comments (i.e., Did you hear what they're saying about you on that other station?). It was a way to guage listenership; since we weren't in a rated market. It also gives you an idea of how loyal your listeners are to you. After all, if they were listening to the "other" station, when they called; you'd like to know why?

I hate to see KILT get down to their level. But, I understand. KKBQ has not only closed the gap, but they have surpassed KILT in a lot of demos. KILT's music, which used to be a solid mix of older and newer country is mostly newer country as well, with the exception of Rowdy's syndicated show. However, I attribute the decline in all the changes they've made. They used to be a great Full-Service Radio station with RB McEntire and Jim Carola on news, TJ Callahan, Dan Gallo, Leslie T. Travis... and others. The only ones left seem to be H&H and Rowdy. It's just a shame. KILT and KKBQ used to sound like two completely different stations and it was nice. Now, they sound the same, and it's disappointing.

I don't live in Houston, but I visit often. I've always admired the way KILT took the "high road" while 93Q's KILT-bashing struck me as kind of childish. Sort of how they've been Country for over 15 years, yet still refer to themselves as the "New 93Q". I hate to see KILT stoop to their level, but I understand something needs to be done.

Another poster put it correctly when referring to all the familiar voices that KILT has pink-slipped over the past few years. The decline of what was once a GREAT radio station.

Naa, the jocks didnt start it. I can tell you a number of folks from each station have good
friends at the other station, and get along pretty well. Its interesting around Rodeo time to see guys with opposite logos hanging out and chatting.

Nevertheless, competition is a good thing, whether one personally agrees with everything done. When someone asks me how I think the wheels should roll, I'll answer honestly. That day's not coming, so no need to worry. Your job is to do your job, and you might as well enjoy it and enjoy life.

I'm not sure many outside the format are aware of this, but I think the country demo is probably among FM radio's most interactive listeners now, at least in this market. You can see it in the promotions / remotes. You can see it on web activity. And you get callers other than Karen on the phone. I'm sure somebody will dispute it, but I'm too busy to argue.

Country is today's pop music for white people.

There. I said it.

If you can't relate to Soulja Boy & Pitbull, you probably feel more at home listening to Kenny Chesney & Taylor Swift (although Taylor has worn our her welcome with me). So yeah, I can see country doing really well with 18-34 women, and I can see them making a connection with the stations that play it. No argument from me.

Darius Rucker, Warren Sapp, and a million suburban kids in baggy pants disagree with you.

LOL, like that's a problem.

Not that I'm looking, but Tumbleweed Texas is a rather pleasant place to be on Saturday night, right? Nothing like that wholesome look.

Meanwhile back at the other station's studio: (sound of nails on chalkboard) "~~HIIII _____---HELLO TO YOU---~~~JUST CHECKIN EE-YAN!"

btw, we should take our ladies out to T-weed, one evening, and pretend we can dance country. You look better in western wear than I do, anyway.

It is a lot more fun working for the winner than the loser. ;)

But when Karen finally passes on, I expect to see every jock in this city at her funeral. We can place a phone with every station's request line on speed dial on top of the casket.

Sounds like a plan! You should see the new boots!
