The beat goes on

Hate to see cuts anywhere, but I suppose CC's country stations here in GSP will survive and continue to thrive. But for the struggling WMYI, hmm, that may be a different story.

Well, if I worked at WMYI, I would still be concerned even if I wasn't cut. They are obviously going nowhere with Hot AC. The numbers are below what their worst were as AC and if I remember correctly they are way behind 25-54. I think Clear Channel may give it two full years but I honestly would be surprised if the Hot AC format was still around in a year.

Well,...(southern prefix)...I said, well,...most of us, especially members of the GSP Radio "Think Tank", expected this manner of behavior. Companies such as CC are loooooooo-sing their ASS[EDIT*] The whole concept of RUN IT...or SELL IT...is coming to light. However, by now,...the FCC should have stepped-in...in order to stop this crualty to THE AMERICAN WORKER! No, I'm not...none of us are surprised,...just Pisssst-ed!
Clean-out your desk, tuck your headphones under your arm, and leave the building politely,[EDIT*]

the urban station will always be the number one station in gsp. the country stations have done well sometimes but urban is king until someone takes them on. hot ac will continue as long as women numbers are good. you dont have to be number one to make a dollar if you reach the target audience of the advertiser no matter what your format is. twelve plus rank is not a true indication of success. approaching advertisers that identify with your audience can be successful and lucrative

I was not using 12+ as the indicator of the Hot AC. In the last 25-54 book, if you read back on here, the Hot AC was well behind the AC and was almost last. If they were doing well with women 25-54, they wouldn't be 8th place in the overall 25-54 demo, likely being beat by stations like Rock 101 and Hot 98.

Besides, how many successful Hot AC stations go all-Christmas in the middle of November? I haven't read of one on here other than My...

i think it is a bad idea to go all christmas on any station but i know why they do it. i really dont care but 102.5 with women 18-49 in the past year was 4th 3rd 2nd and 4th not bad if youre not buying urban or country you dont have to do well with persons in broad demos to do well with who you are targeting. that is all i was saying if you believe arbitron

That is the funniest comment I've read today. Haven't you read the news? The big debate now is about cutting government employees. Millions of them. Probably quite a few in the FCC. And it's nothing new. The history of Washington for the past 30 years has been about trying to cut the size of government. That's code for firing government workers. The agencies, already strapped for staff, aren't going to step in to stop cruelty to workers...especially at a company whose most visible employee, Rush Limbaugh, is calling for more government cuts. You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

Damn.
Radio Info has a list of some of CC's cuts from later in the day yesterday.
More than 50 names, from major markets across the country.

"Massive Cuts Demoralize Industry" http://www.radioinfo.com/

Just awful

Read the article. Doesn't mention any GSP cuts, but says the list is "by no means complete". Wonder if anyone in GSP or elsewhere in South Carolina got axed?

This kind of crap makes me sick, and right before Christmas. I know times are tight and CC is probly feeling it too but what about the people they just let go, think they might be feeling it also? And we wonder why radio is going to h*ll. My thoughts go out to everyone who has been let go from a job.

And in other news, Santa is laying off elves and Regina thinks she has prevented her mother Cora from crossing over.
