This morning that awful morning guy on 95.5 "Murf dog" was swearing and cussing up a storm and asking for booty calls...the station sounds lousy and Cox should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this kind of language and garbage on the air. The GM and PD must be on vacation or not tuned in....this was BAD radio....

I think Cox will be recieving a nice NAL from the FCC in a few days.

Last year, the station kept playing "Icy" from rapper Gucci Mane while he was sitting in the clink accused of murder. Talk about bad taste.

Guess we can start talking about a new format for 95.5. I doubt Cox will be able to keep this station afloat without incurring liabilities. (I thought Cox was FCC-fearin' folk).

What you don't like Murf Dawg Atlanta's favorite [EDIT]?

What a tool he is. He sounds like such a phony. Not sure how anyone could like him but Iam not their target demo anyway.

[EDIT-offensive content]

What exactly was said? Swearing is still allowed last time I checked. Depends on WHAT kind of swearing. Format change and the FCC???? That's a little premature don't ya think?

Exact Quote:

"Get your A#$ down her and give me a little bit"....from host

"Cmon honey give me your A#$....from listener...

This was a biy (booty call) trying to get the wife to go home and have sex with the listener...my 11 year old wanted me to explain this?....guess that cancels that station forever...cant this guy do a entertaining show without sounding like a total idiot.

All rotten and even worse from a Cox station...

I hear ya. It's offensive to some, but not a FCC offense. Cox does not tolerate that type of radio though. So maybe Murf dog will be reminded that if he wants to keep his gig he'll change his style QUICKLY, or he'll be replaced.

It's an urban station. The chronic complainers don't listen to them anyway, so nothing will happen. If you did Murf's schtick on a rock or talk station, you'd be fired in a week.

He's bad for so many other reasons anyway, that's just the tip of the iceberg. How did someone of his talent level end up on one of the top stations in market 9? It's especially odd when their Birmingham urban has a far more talented morning team (although they can get just as raunchy at times).

Oh, they call that show "Murf Dawg in the Morning"? I thought it was the "Horribly Overmodulated, Poorly Produced Show with Too-Loud Beds."

So it doesn't have the same ring to it...at least mine's truthful. ;D

Seriously, this is a top 10 market. You'd think at this point you could find people that know how to read a VU meter or know that beds are supposed to be BACKGROUND music.

When 95.5 first came on the air is was actually good. The powers that be took it in the so called urban direction and now it's just pure GARBAGE. Cox should be ashamed!

Its ALLLLL about money....Cox pays their air talents (with the exception of Boortz, Howards and Slade) peanuts...Murf Dawg is likely a hair above hand to mouth w wages....i hear him do live endorsements - can you believe a client is INVESTING their hard money in "murf dawg" and on the beat...talking about throwing or lighting your money on fire....what a COMPLETE waste....

The show/station needs a tune up and the GM whoever he is needs a talkin to from the Cox sisters.

I wonder what a "dressin' down" from the sisters would be like?
Do ya think they would get you up there in their jet(pretense: PD meeting in Dayton) and make you watch Bob Neil tapdance to Elton John songs in a foo foo nightie?(No escape possible- parachutes reserved for class A stockholders)
Do you think those ol' bidies ever listen to "the Governor's stations?"
The sisters are old school intellectual-progressives(read:Democrats)They probably think Murf is "so expressively ethnic" and wouldn't dare impede the expression of his "quaint African-American coloquilisms."
And just what do you expect from a gentleman named "Murf dawg?" Are you going to put "The Beat" on your car radio with kids in the car? Be a man/woman and just tell the little boogers NO!
If the little snots complain.....make em' listen to Chopin(or Dave Ramsey) all the way to the mall!

95.5 THE BEAT is FAR from Urban clichemoth. Yeah they play the TOP hip-hop and R&B joints, but there is lots of repetition over there. "The Booty Call" isn't new to Murph Dawg because I believe I've heard it on HOT 98.1 in Greenville when he was there too. The truth be told, 95.5 THE BEAT isn't going to change its wannabe Urban lean any time soon. As soon has Cox flipped 97.1 JAMZ from Urban to Classic Hits, The BEAT has been gaining in on HOT 107.9 in recent ratings. They even went from "Atlanta's New #1 Hit Music Station" to "Atlanta's New #1 for Hip-Hop." Speeding up the music and spinning music while HOT 107.9 and V103 take commercial breaks must be working.

Say what you want but Hip Hop is the new Top 40. Let's face it, 95.5 is delivering hip hop to the white demo. Tweens/Teens/and Adults. I thought they were doing a pretty good job at keeping it family friendly though.
If the kids aren't listening in the car, they're listening when the adults aren't around.

Just "what" is family friendly about "The Beat??"
You want your kids to emulate the people in hip hop culture.....singin' raps about bangin' "bitches" and stealin' rims?? Lilly white suburban kids trying to talk ghetto(like THEY know what it's like to be a minority and in poverty?) The whole materialism/sexualism angle?
Now I know that's not what it is ALL about....there is some very good hip hop and some good artists. There is a low power FM station in Tyrone that plays nothing but Christian hip hop. Some of the music is positive.
But the stuff that's getting most of the commercial radio spins, by and large, is a moral cesspool. And the whole culture being promoted by stations like 95.5 and 107.9 is negative and detrimental.
It can be argued that the hip hop culture is a reflection of the fustration in the African-American community.....that hip hop is not the cause of negativity but merely a result of the anger felt by many because of a lack of socioeconomic progress in American society. But white kids imitate because it's "cool"....not because they sympathize with the struggle.
Thanks be to _____ that we have the choice. But as a parent, I think "The Beat" is poison and it will not be playin' anytime soon on my car radio!

Yeah, the station is lame. From hearing other Cox-owned rhythmic CHR/urban stations, I'm convinced that they think hip-hop radio is supposed to sound like that. They just don't sound that good, yet they've been pretty successful with the crap sound they put out everywhere they've tried it.

And my main point was that the self-appointed arbiters of morality that put the FCC on speed-dial so they can whine whenever a shock jock says "ass" don't listen to hip-hop. You have to seriously cross the line to get fined/fired on a hip-hop station. Aside from DJ Star in NYC (who managed to cross every line at once), I can't think of another case. It just doesn't happen.
