The Beat is dead, out comes "The D"

Not a big surprise with WRIF moving away from classic hits and WOMC trending away from oldies. I agree they have serious competition with WCSX but see them going with a broader playlist that isn't all hard rock.

Without doubt Greater Media's move with WGPR precipitated this.

Oh no!!!!!!! This is sad news. I loved The Beat - especially when they played a lot of forgotten Rhythmic AC hits. :-(

What is WRIF moving toward?

And when you say WOMC is trending away from oldies, do you mean it's moving more to "classic hits" or something else - like AC?

I got to my car see if 106.7 The Beat was gone and it is. Detroit has way to much Chr/top 40 anyways. Why Classic Rock again? Why not Country? Give WYCD a run for there money. With WYCD doing so good lately. Plus Detroit already has 93.1,94.7,101.1,95.1,100.7 at time's 93.9?

The frequency is dead. Poison. Too many formats. How much do you want to bet that every daypart will be syndicated. And the music will be Premium Choice.

It's a problem when there's a CHR and a Hot AC or a CHR and a Rhythmic in the same cluster (ex. WKQI and WNIC, WHTZ and WKTU)... with the demise of 106.7 The Beat, at least Channel 955 can go back to a rhythmic lean as opposed to a pop-rock/adult lean :)

Tried it. Remember "The Fox"? Failed. Miserably. Then again, any station that lets listeners "choose the music" is bound to fail miserably.

As for the new 106.7 name - yes, Detroit is known in some circles as "The D" - but doesn't it sound as if they're stopping short of calling themselves by an old name ("The Drive")?

the d rock sucks I care less if I could care less if it went back to coutry I wont listen to those two station 106.7 the beat was the best ever heard now the frequency sucks again

Yeah your right I do Remember The Fox failing. What about Smooth Jazz 106.7 The Oasis. That will give it a full power signal in Detroit something else then another classic rock station that Detroit does not need.

I don't think this new "classic rock" station will do well. You've got WCSX in this market, too, and there is no way they will compete with WCSX.

You won't see country from Clear Channel for a long time probably... if anything I'd sooner expect it from Cumulus or Greater Media than CC :)

It actually failed TWICE. Remember when "W4 Country" moved to Ann Arbor?

W4 is still in A2.

I don't see two Country stations on the Detroit dial, the market will only support one. 99.5 seems to be doing just fine in covering that format.

Smooth Jazz on 106.7 would be terrific but very unlikely. :-(

For those who care, the HD-2 has also changed... Pride Radio is gone and in its place is "The Alternative Project" from iHeartRadio (also heard on 104.7 WIOT HD2 in Toledo). How unimaginative. Hopefully 95.5 brings back Pride Radio as an HD-3 offering, as it was the only place in Detroit to hear actual dance music (Spin Cycle Radio does not count as dance IMO).
