The Beat & Mariah Carey

"We Belong Together" is a quintessential CHR song. It has a soulful, hooky sound, making it fit with either pop or rhythmic. But could someone tell me how many times an hour The Beat plays this thing?

I looked at stoneage.yes.com for the last few hours of WBTS' playlist and it looks like it's being played roughly every hour and a half.

Personally, I hate the song, but to each his own.
______________

Mariah is everywhere!

The Beat has three it plays 90 times or more a week. That comes out to about 1 hour, 40 minutes between plays. According to Mediabase for the week ending 6/25, it played Ciara's Oh 99 times, 50 Cent's "Just a Lil Bit" 98 times and Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" 96 times.

In comparison, top played song on Hot 107.9 was spun 79 times or about once every two hours. That was local rappers Boyz N Da Hood with "Dem Boyz." Mariah? 64 times.

Q100's top song was spun 80 times: "Don't Phunk With My Heart" by Black Eyed Peas (though they play the version that says "Don't Mess With My Heart") Mariah was spun 47 times.

V-103 plays the multiple versions of "Trapped in the Closet" 84 times, which is a combo of all the versions. The second most song, Mariah Carey's "We BElong Together" is spun only 54 times.

Star 94 spun Kelly Clarkson's "Behind Those Hazel Eyes" 69 times (Mariah? Only 45 times...)

That is 306 spins of Mariah Carey from these five stations alone--almost once every 30 minutes somewhere in Atlanta. And I don't even have the stats for Jamz, which probably spun it at least 20 times more.

Re: Mariah is everywhere!

when i get rich (haha) i'm going to buy an fm stick and play a mainstream top chr format and only turn the powers every 3 1/2 hours, or about 50-60 times a week. when the dust settles, we'll find out if that chr theory of "our listeners won't hang around if we don't play their songs every 1 12/ hours" is true. programming minds smarter than mine have told me this, but i don't buy it. i think if chr slowed the rotation down to there, you'd find increased TSL and therefore higher AQH and yes even higher cume.

nobody belives me, though. and since i'm not rich....

I totally agree with you. I grew up on CHR in the 80s and powers were spun nowhere close to the levels they're spun now. When XHTO El Paso debuted with CHR in 2001, their top powers were only in the upper 40s per week.
______________
