According to milkman unlimited's website, Halifax now has a new station on the air in the form of CKHZ(Z103.5). Expect this one to be a clone of the Toronto one(CIDC/Toronto), since both stations are owned by Evanov.

BTW here's their website http://z103halifax.com/

It looks like they plan on streaming online soon. Good news for the Canadians, now if only the U.S could get a few Z1035 type stations.

I also expect this situation to be competitive in Halifax as well: They're up against CHUM Group's Mainstream Top40 rival CIOO(C100 FM).

Damn you Midwestclubber! I couldn't have said it any better, and you beat me to it you little mindreader LOL.
Seriously though, if Halifax can get a CHR that'll mix in some Tiesto and Armand Val Helden, then Chicago, Philly, Miami, L.A. could use one too.

For ages now Halifax has had an Adult leaning CHr in the form of C-100, and now it looks like there's real competition in town. I guess this means C-100 will move towards a Chum 104.5 type of sound...or it might decide to go with a hipper sound.

Looks like we posted a similar response at the same time Robert.

Hmmm...interesting. I live here in southern Otario so I'll have to check it out online. Z103 in Toronto has it good and bad points.

Cant wait to hear the second wave of this z103 station...
(online since i am in niagara falls, ny).

If they don't stream, or constantly have problems..
(they are a Evanov station)..can some one air check and
scope some breaks/liners/ID's. I really dont need the
music, i am more interested in the imaging and creative
top of the hour ID's and clever/and 'local' halifax liners..
ONLY Time i am going to be interested in the mix is when...
it is a 'dj-danny-d' signing on the station -
with him mixing (or some one just as sweet : ) mixing live...or,
a live-2-aire, and it totally sizzles.. !!!
-
NOW, i have a question..only for true cdn's..that can answer this
one.. !! i know some peep's that read this board, like myself ,
are American's..which is also cool, and some, if not all live
near a border-town..so we are familiar with some (can-con for one)
and other canadian-specific regulations..but i don't want
[much] speculation, some is okay : ) well..here is my ?????
-
Can Evanov *Legally* as allowed by law..simucast(?sp) z-103.5 fm
with one source..being in toronto?
-
Footnote:
( *NOW, in this hypothetical, they have a halifax studio, where they can,
at any time, upon request, make the halifax studio go "Live") but...
until the CRTC asks them too..they use the toronto "feed" to
serve the 103.5 in halifax...
-
and, to make it sound.."official.."

"..chris biggs, on z103-dot-5-Canada's favourite top 40 station..."

<>
can this happen ?
-
sidenote:
I know they can..'get around' this..by pulling a page out of 'energy-FM'...
and, generate playlists and fax it over..so it will ultimately be the
same station..but, respectively, each station, will independently be
playing the songs, and live DJ's will place their own input on
intro's/outro's...but to actually do the above...network a station,
many miles away..that 'just so happen' to be on the same frequencey ????

You'd have to read their license stipulations, but my first guess would be absolutely not.

And why would they? Canada is about regions, and the regions don't always see eye to eye. Eastern Canada is very "tight", it's protective of it's own, and local works.

Nonetheless, congrats to Evanov. Z103 is an interesting and innovative radio station (as radio goes for being innovative). In Toronto, they understand the fabric of Toronto, which is very ethnic. Toronto Canada is the most culturally diverse city on the planet, moreso than NYC, LA or London England. Z reflects that, even with just simple things as holiday greetings in different languages.

It is a multicultural CHR for the children of the immigrants. Their ratings, now higher than ever, reflect that success. Good on them, and good luck in Halifax. It's a different city (I travel there for work), but it is multicultural, and yes, a reasonably large city as far as Canada goes.
