"The Beat"'s subchannel WBTS-HD2......

Thank god for Wikipedia...(lol)! Who knows if it's totally up to date but, I JUST NOW read on there that for the last 3 or 4 years,  "The Beat"'s subchannel, WBTS-HD2 carries a supposed pure, CHR/Top 40 format. Now, of course...like many of us, I don't have access to a stupid HD radio to hear this. And of course, I know why they have it....as an option for when "the beat"'s main signal morphed into their current, TIRED, (more segragated) format.

.....BUT.....

As much as we've been going on about lack of pure CHR in Atlanta, does anyone out there have any info on this subchannel? Is it locally run out of "the beat" studios? Does anyone that's ever heard WBTS-HD2 know if they do, infact play a real CHR mix (T-Pain, Taylor Swift, etc)? And there DJ's? Are there request-line shows, sydicated CHR shows? And I guess the biggest question is, is there any feed-back on how it's doing? Has cox ever looked at this subchannel as a trial run to see if CHR is worth bringing back to Atlanta?

Okay......y'all get the idea...(lol). Anyway, for this being around since 2006. I sure haven't heard any thing about it!

Any thoughts?

You can always buy one of those new pocket Insignia HD radios to get WBTS HD-2. Only 50 bucks at Best Buy. Anyone have one of these? I was interested in buying one but I hear mixed reviews.

Can you line-out it to your home stereo, car MP3 adapter, iPod dock, etc.?

I have one of these little babies, and the reception is just fine. Sounds great thru headphones and you can line-out using the headphone jack.

You may have problems with the out of town signals in mid town due to overload from the nearby in-town sticks, other than that, the little thing works amazingly well. I have use it to drive the AUX jack on a car radio, and it works fine for that as well.

So suburban reception is OK?

North Cobb it works fine as well. Although I do not get HD from stations like 104.1, 97.1, 106.7. I have not tried 95.5 out here---I am out of the demo. ;D

The intown signals are pretty reliable out this way.

Just bought one of these Insignia HD portable receivers. Absolutely awesome! Excellent sound and great reception out here in Loganville. The reception is about as good as my car stereo. I have version 3 now and it seems like all of the glitches I read about online are now fixed. Anyone else bought one of these lately? Any thoughts good or bad?

I am beyond thrilled to hear about everyone's different HD-RECEIVERS.....BUT......Can anyone that read my ORIGINAL (elongated) question that started this topic, please tell me if you know anything about WBTS-HD2 as a PURE top-40 station, please? ???

(Please read this topic's first entry)

Thanks. ;)

LMAO @ electroboy73. If I had one bro I'd inform you. Interesting, 95.5 THE BEAT is sending out music surveys based on the songs they're playing. Last time HOT 107.9 did one of these they increased R&B songs.

It's been awhile since I've listened to 95.5 HD-2 but yes, they are more pure top 40 than Q100 or Star 94.

As for the Ingsigna portable HD receiver, yes it does have good sound quality and seems to have a sensitive receiver but I've found that the HD keeps dropping out when moving around and trying to listen to a station in HD. I actually returned mine for that reason.

I am surprised that there isn’t an internet stream for this. They went to all the trouble to put on a HD2 station (at least some kind of STL link unless they use composite, PC automation, some music clearance fees and programming) etc.

The Beat's HD-2 channel identifies itself as Power 95, Atlanta's New #1 Hit Music Station. It is like what the Beat would be like today if it had stayed "pop" instead of going to "rhythmic." It plays new, recurrents, and a lot of music from 2000-2009 - all mainstream pop. Sister station "Power 100.1" in Athens is similar but Power 100.1 only plays current stuff. It does play that #1 hit of Missy Elliot's from the fall of 2002. I forget the title but it talks about "hot as Las Vegas weather." Instead the whole song is about "106.1 the station that is #1" over and over again. Outside of this, the playlist is excellent and has a wide variety. The playlist I wish another top 40 station in Atlanta would use.
