THE BEAT SENDING MIXED MESSAGES

I was just scanning the dial and came across the Beat 100.3 with a long ad/infomercial/public service announcement. This was about the crime and murder rate in the city and what to do to stop it. A few atheletes and other high profile Black figures were voicing their concern about the violence against their own people by their own people, Colby added his thoughts, this is all well and good. BUT... I tuned back later and there was the same Rap tunes promoting crime, pimping, violence, shootings you know the schtick, I would think this is a mixed message to the listeners, if you want to promote peace then play it.

Rapping about murder... and going out on the streets and killing someone...is two different things. I like rock ( sex, drugs and Rock n Roll ),but does that mean I should get High and Bang a few hookers ? Stop Blaming the music..for stupid things jerks do . Violence been around.. long before Rap/Rock or any type of music .

While everyone is responsible for his or her own actions, music that condones a certain behavior reinforces the ideas behind it.
No one negates that violence has been around forever but the hip, hop life style unfortunately, for the most part, is about living a "thug" lifestyle.
Teenagers-kids are extremely impressionable and constant negative, violent and sexist lyrics do nothing to create positive and productive ideas.
Hip, hop is undoubtedly a creative music type but a more positive message would benifit society as a whole.
For a radio station to condem violence and they play lyrics that promote is blatantly contradictory.
