The Beat

Almost a year ago Energy Arizona went bye bye bye for good and we got The Beat, aka your classic hip hop connection. So a year has passed, was this the right move? Anyone know how their ratings are? How much does it cost them to have Big Boy in the morning? Just tossing it out there. I do know Beau is a huge dance fan and if the money were there, he would bring dance back in a minute. So no dissing on Beau but I sure do miss the beats on the FM dial.

They've been hovering around a 0.8 share or so (6+) over the past several months. I would say that is quite an accomplishment, especially when you consider that the 2 signals the station primarily mentions in its marketing efforts (92.7 and 99.3) are 10-watt and 18-watt translators, respectively.

Also, except in the very early days of the station, Energy rarely showed up in the ratings. But then again...Energy existed in the diary-measurement era. Part of me will always wonder how Energy would have performed (and if it would still be around) if Phoenix had become a PPM market even one year earlier.

A Steve Dahl in reverse lawsuit sounds interesting! Dahl is claiming millions of damages because PPM caused his ratings to vaporize, while the Diary kept him in tall cotton. Hmmmmm....Nurse Czarina Jeff and I wonder if any ad agency is going to jump on the litigation bandwagon, claiming they spent millions of dollars on stations that no longer have big numbers of listeners hearers since the switch to PPM? Perhaps we should offer some nighttime jurisprudence courses at the Buckeye Media Hut to get a little of the action!

Also remember when the moved to the beat format, they added 99-3 to the lineup as well. Energy was never on this frequency. I wonder if this would have helped as well.
