The beginning of the end for DLR?

From www.dcrtv.com

DLR Gone - 3/29 - This just in: CBS Radio has removed the low-rated David Lee Roth (right) from his post-Howard Stern morning slot at the company's stations in NYC, Philadelphia, Boston, and Pittsburgh. Just in time for the spring ratings sweep, which starts tomorrow. "JV And Elvis" now airs in NYC, at least. CBS recently flipped Philadelphia rocker WYSP, which carried Stern in morning drive, to "Free FM" all-talk with Roth in mornings. And it has plunged from 4th to 19th place in the ratings. We'll get more info later today about how the Junkies are doing as Stern's replacement at DC's WJFK-FM and Baltimore's WHFS when another round of Arbitrends gets released.....

Mr. OA also has some stuff on this over at OMW. According to OMW, CBS sited technical difficulties as the reason for Roth not being on this morning. OA went on to say that he had a hard time believing that. So, dcrtv.com is correct, the experiment with Roth is coming to an end in at least four markets. I didn't hear the show this morning, so I didn't personally hear any announcements on why DLR wasn't on (or if he'll be on again).

If this indeed true, should be interesting to see who ends up on WNCX. Does DLR stay on in some markets, or does he get bounced from all of them? Opie and Anthony have admitted to talking to CBS, and the Junkies have rumored as well as a possible replacement for DLR. <P ID="signature">______________

2 Thoughts

1. Wasn't the beginning of the end really when Uncle Manny came on in hour 2?

2. I forgot my Myfi and listened to 98.5 on the way into work today. Is it just me or is JV/Elvis a Cousin Ed sound-alike?

If Roth is taken off NCX I hope they go with a local show. Is Slats still avaliable? I think he'd make a good morning show personality.

I honestly thought the DLR replacement show this morning was a put-on or one of those fake radio-soundalike commercials that NBC used to run about their prime time shows. I'm here in Pittsburgh and can understand putting them on the former Stern station here (a CHR that was blown up in '04 to bring Stern back after the Clear Channel incident - there's really no reputation to damage) but it's a joke for an established rocker with great personalities like 'NCX to have to air that inane drivel. Or maybe they're trying to make DLR more interesting by comparison, which he is, by a huge margin.

Stop the bleeding. Put Flash or Bill Louis in mornings - the week of local shows on DLR's well deserved vacation (heh) was great. Please, turn off the NYC Free-FM feed NOW. I like 'NCX, I'd hate to see it implode.

(If anyone's interested, the full audio from the week of 98.5's local AM show is at wncx.com)

BEGINNING of the end???? It IS the end. Can't say it's over because it never started. Take out the feeding tubes. Stick a fork in it. You can't bring an inanimate object back to life!

CBS solution?

Well, maybe, they'll realize that a local morning show, with actual radio personalities, can make money. Shocking concept, I know.

But, let's not give CBS too much credit here. That would be the CORRECT answer, which pretty much guarantees that CBS will do the exact opposite.
