The beginning of the end for WAVO?

I didn't save the link but it's easy to search.

Mark Washburn's latest Charlotte Observer column said Ken Conrad is out, and a talk show has replaced him. SRN network news is being added at the top of the hour, and SRN distributes the Bill Bennett "Morning in America" show.

I want my music in the mornings! We have enough talk radio!

But what's worse is the possibility they might just dump the music for something that people will actually listen to.

Wow that sure doesn't sound good. Ken Conrad is a great guy, I worked with him at 102.9 and always found him upbeat and easy to work with. No ego problems with Ken. Prior to WAVO he worked in the same building doing mornings on 106.1 for quite awhile.

I can't say I'm surprised 1410 and 1150 are not Charlotte signals. You can hear them here but there is plenty of noise in their signals.

I wish someone would do the WAVO format on XM.

I agree this doesn't sound like good news for the current WAVO format and yes we have more than enough talk radio already.

It takes time and promotion to build a radio station's format. Many operators don't seem to understand this anymore. TV is the same way. If it's not an instant hit, it's gone.

I only started liking him on WEGO.

On Mix 106.1 he didn't seem committed to the music. The fact is when he wasn't there and they had the satellite format instead (until 2006, when even that changed), the music sounded so much better. The station admitted a lot of Magic 96.1 listeners had moved over, but I didn't care for their music.

Ironically, after the switch to oldies, Ken Conrad's music sounded way better than the new satellite format. It was much, much worse when the satellite format was used. I think it can be argued Ken Conrad didn't have to change format because he already had.

I just saw another topic related to this.

The newspaper article mentioned 104.3 FM. That would be the perfect solution for this station. At least there would be a Charlotte signal, such as it is.
