The Best Automation System

Some interesting choices for automation around Charlotte. We've all heard the arguments back and forth... So let's hear your vote for radio's best automation system! I've got to say Scott Systems wins it hands down for most user friendly.

I have a feeling that most people like what they are used to. I have seen Scott Systems but never really used it. That's what they have at WRCM-FM. I have used Audio Vault and it's okay once you get the hang of it.

I'd be interested in hearing about the features each system has that makes the difference.

I have also noticed that just about all the stations around here seem to use Adobe Audition (aka Cool Edit Pro) for production. Any thoughts there?

Mike,
I wholeheartedly agree that Cool Edit (as I will always call it)
is the most user friendly program on the market. Even a rookie
can create some nifty stuff with this software.

Automation System

From an on-air operational aspect, I'd rate Prophet Nex Gen #1. Set up properly (as is the key with any Digital Storage System), it runs like a champ, us very user-frendly and just plain makes sense.

Re: Automation System

I completely agree, but mine has been in the crapper since day one.
NOW after being on the air with it since October '04 it's finally
being wired correctly. Thanks Media Tech!

I guess it depends on how you define "user."

If you're wanting to both "use" and "administrate" in a studio, it's not. You pretty much have to not "use."

Re: Automation System

I've even spent a good deal of time with Prophet, even 'gotten used to it', but I still think Scott runs circles around it as far as on-air goes. Then again, I'm a broker, not a Jock...what do I know?!

But hey, my first automation system experience was an RDS Phantom, and man was that thing ancient! The smoothest satellite automation I've ever heard, but complete pain in the...elbow...for live assist.

I guess since most of us don't have to plug in carts these days, we shouldn't complain about anything huh? Imagine if we had to go back to those days!

As for production, is there anything else other than Cool Edit?? :)

Oh, and Spindoctor, those MediaTech guys really know their stuff huh?

Re: Automation System

Cool is the deal, sorry Audio Vault guys.

Yessir, now if we could just get the plump one to put down the
ham samdwiches and take a bath.

Re: Automation System

My first automation system was the UDS (Ultimate Digital System)...not bad, but some definite problems. I've used a number of them (Audio Vault, Scott, Maestro, among others), and I'm currently using Simian. Scott is good, but I guess my personal favorite is Maestro. I found it to be very user friendly. I've never used Prophet, but look forward to someday. As far as production, Cool Edit is the BOMB!!!
