The Best Choice for Merlin with 106.9 at this point could be CHR?

OK, just for fun, what music format hole would I try to fill? An updated Classic Hits format. 80s centered, with upbeat late 70s and some Hot AC from the early 90s. It would draw from WOGL B101 and Ben without competing directly with them.

They could call it Eagle 106 (point 9). Format it to sound exactly like Eagle sounded in the 80s, hire the same DJs, etc. Though, it would play music from slightly before the Eagle era.

Or they could leave a station dead for close to two decades dead.

Yeah, there is that one. The one that says don't alienate folks with music they won't like if that's not what you intend to program in the long run.

It'll be a news station. Why confuse its potential listeners?

Just because a station is there, doesn't mean it can hold the spot. Q102 is the worst CHR I have ever heard. My favorite CHR is Now 96.3 in Minneapolis/St. Paul less talk, more interesting, better music. You can listen to it online.

Now 96.3 changed formats after Christmas, in response to 102.9 Lite FM's flip to country on December 26

Flipped to what, Nick?

If the classic country were tried, what years would you suggest?

or they could stunt by simulcasting fm news 101.9 into philly for a few days

Two bad things can happen with that. One is that people will think it's permanent and will refuse to listen to what they think is a New York news station. The other is that the stunt will pull better than the 0.6 they've been getting in New York. :D

Variety hits, like a Jack FM format.

It will be an all news station just like the one in Chicago (where I'm from) and trust me it's god awful! And to think, they took Chicago's only modern/alt rock station and flipped it to a horrible news station that they have yet to promote and they are doing horrible in the Arbitron books not to mention they are getting smoked by WBBM. I wish Randy and his circus would just go away...

Wow, I would expect to hear the return of Y100 back in Philly as Y107 8) Get them out of 102.5 and head to 106.9

Don't we already have that on 95.7 Ben-FM?

Oh, I see. I thought you were talking about Philly.

96.3 isn't an allocation or even open to be one of any sort. So no, it's not about Philly. (mayhe you were thinking of 96.5?)

I'd be surprised if Wired 96.5 ever gets a format change, it has a huge cume, it's own countrywide radio show AND a share of 3.0+. (which i stated why I think)

I know Beasley would rather pull WXTU, if they pulled anything.

Sell it to CBS

Sell what to CBS? If Merlin ever sells 106.9, they wouldn't sell it to their competitor.
On the highly unlikely chance it gets put up for sale AGAIN -
Cumulus may get it, Beasley may get it, but not CBS! I hope Radio One sells 103.9 or 100.3 to CBS, they're such worthless radio stations.
