The Big 3 AM stations

I was thinking today about Stan Roberts and I realized that Stan worked for all 3 of the big Buffalo AM's when they were owned separately WKBW-WGR-WBEN. Is there anyone else who has done that?

Don't know if anyone but Stan ever got the triple crown. But you'd be amazed how many are two for three...Danny Neaverth was on WGR before WBEN; Jeff Kaye went to WBEN from KB; so, at various times, did Jim McLaughlin, Sandy Beach, John Zach and yours truly; George Hamberger left KB and wound up at WGR; John Otto went from WGR to KB and back; Shane went to KB after GR; and of course, the crosstown parade began when Clint Buehlman went from WGR to WBEN after Jack Paar got drafted and had to leave WBEN in 1943.

Bob, you've done better than two out of three. John Zack? Known for his work at KB, also worked for us at WGR News Radio 55, and now at WBEN. George Hamberger? He's got the hat trick too; worked at WBEN for Larry Levite. Still recall the billboard campaign, "The biggest names in radio are on WBEN" with George's last name spread across two duplex billboards on the Kensington expressway. George did mornings at WGR and afternoons at KB before leaving for CFTR. Sandy? Known for his midday, nights and PM drive work at KB (as well as PD), he did a guest stint at WGR in the music days and a short stint at WGR in the early news-talk era, working for Chuck Finney. So Bob, ya done good! George, John and Sandy get the Buffalo radio hat trick.

Thanks, I had a feeling there were others and I knew yous guys would know :)

BTW not long ago I read "Big Russ & Me" by Tim Russert. I didn't realize till I read the book how widespread the threat of being sent to "Father Baker's" was. I could really relate to that!

On this date some 58 years ago a little broadcaster was born at OLV.

It's been easier for the sports guys:

I was lucky enough to do Bison games on all three, along with WUFO, WXRL and WEBR; Bills coverage on WBEN and WGR; Sabres on WWKB, WGR and CJRN; along with other gigs....

Ted Darling and Rick Jeanneret did Sabres on WGR and WBEN; Van Miller with the Bills on WBEN and WGR, Ed Rutkowski did the Bills on WKBW and WGR....

What about Tom Donahue? I know he was on 1520 AM and 550 AM, but I'm struggling to remember if he was ever on 930 AM, other than voiceovers for commercials. I want to say he used to fill in for Bill Lacy in morning drive for a short time, but perhaps that is wrong.
