the big 3WZ morning show rumor

Latest rumor going 'round and 'round is that Jeff Brown's contract at The Bus is up at the end of the year, and he will be going back to 3WZ.

Now that would be interesting...but would 3-WZ's new "hipper approach" fit Jeff's delivery? I think he is superb on the Bus. He really fits (and seems to enjoy) the format. Always liked Jeff...he is just one of those voices that stands out...and he sounds like everyone's best friend...a great quality to have. But I am not sure if he'd be a square peg in a round hole at a station that at least on the surface appears to be skewing younger?

Have any ideas on timeline on this if it were to happen (and could rumors of pulling out to move back to 3-WZ just be a ploy to help bolster renewal talks with Forever for more $$$ in his pay)?

Highly doubtful the rumors are true. Jeff Brown doesn't need more money from Forever. His "real job" is at Penn State. Jeff is an independant contractor for Forever Broadcasting and they aren't going to pay him more money knowing there are plenty of people waiting in line for that slot to open up.

I don't agree that he sounds like everyone's best friend. Just MHO.

Jeff is one the nicest guys in this business...wherever he is, he will succeed.

Jeff's "real job" is at PSU....and your point is??? My real job is something very different too, but that does not mean that my radio gig is any less important to me. At one time, Jeff Brown WAS 3-WZ (I realize I am setting myself up to be slammed here). But seriously. When there was any event at all, Jeff was the man. I can also tell you at one time in the midst of a radio research campaign in State College, B103 learned quite all too well that Jeff Brown was the most recognized personality in the local market. Why would it be so impossible to believe that the man would ever think of wanting to get back a piece of that kind of action if he could? I do not really know Jeff well, but thats only human nature. That'd be like someone tossing me a PD Gig and saying "do what you want with it". Real Job or not, I'd have to give that some thought because when I was involved in programming is when I was at the top of my game.

I never said anything about him being nice. I'm sure he's a nice guy. I only expressed an opinion. I don't think he sounds like everybody's best friend. Simple. Now please excuse me while I go get the Hilton boy all fired up. ;)

What part of "real job" did you not get? A "real job" is the one that gives you a steady salary in exchange for you to put in so many hours of work per day, it's what pays part of your health insurance so your kids can stay healthy. A "real job" has those perks like vacation and sick time and if you're lucky, a retirement plan.

And I can tell you that at any randomly chosen time, Steve Jones fell into that category. So did Wendy Williams, Tod Jeffers, Kevin Nelson, Ruth O'Brien, and Stephanie Garrison. And every single one of them did, or still do, the same thing Jeff Brown has done. They've all done the parades, the emceeing and the events about town.

Why would it be so impossible to believe that the man would ever think of wanting to get back a piece of that kind of action if he could?

Because Penn State pays him a salary and benefits out the wazoo. Why would he ever want to put both feet back into local radio?

Radio is Jeff Brown's side job now. He's by no means a terrible or unlikeable personality to listen to either. But if you listen long enough, you can tell that he's been "phoning it in" for probably the last 5 years. Just MHO.

I have to agree.

So where is Ruth O"Brien these days?

Ruth Ann has been in York for years. She did a brief stint in Cumberland County as an Operations Manager but went back to York. She still runs her karaoke biz and is lead singer in a local York band (forget the name).
