"A Gow Media station". It's the only apparent difference from being operated by Cumulus....so far. This is Labor Day weekend and more may come tomorrow. Have heard only the one mention of 1560 so far and that was last week before the changeover. Nothing since the 1st.

Perhaps he will simulcast with 1560.

Old Chicago

My gut feeling is that Gow is going to swap frequencies and put 1560 and his Yahoo Sports Radio brand on FM and move ESPN radio to 1560. I know they both have terrible reception throughout the city, but for me being in the League City area, I can pick up 97.5 much better at any point through the day than I can 1560

ESPN would have more brand recognition and should be the surviving format for simulcasting AM and FM. Therefore, Gow will probably do the opposite.

The contract with ESPN might prevent any station swap in the immediate future. In the longer term, ESPN might not have much choice. Gow needs to decide if the ESPN brand recognition (and ratings) are worth keeping on FM, or does he want the FM as the flagship for his own YSR network?

Wouldn't surprise me if ESPN is quietly shopping around for another Houston affiliate, although the choices are pretty grim. The Disney brass can't be happy that their affiliate in a market the size of Houston is in the hands of a competitor's owner.

I don't see an ESPN simulcast happening. Gow wouldn't remove his own sports network from Houston radio, unless he is buying a third station and moving it there.

Unless Y!SR becomes extinct given that CBS and NBC will both be new competition after the first of the year, and both of course have name recognition far beyond that of Yahoo Sports. Wonder if NBC might make a play for an LMA on 1560, while Gow moves the 1560 players over to 97.5?

I'd think ESPN would jump at the chance to get their programming in this market out of the hands of the competition. Ultimately, money talks and if David Gow wants to run both he has the finances to make it happen. A simulcast makes no sense financially, especially if a deal can be worked out with NBC.
