The Big Pig

My All Access email arrived the other day with Olean numbers listed. Olean, all all places! Anyway, the Big Pig absolutely owns the market with a 15.6 share. The rest of the listed stations, including WMXO where I once worked (as WBJZ Country 101), had a 2.2 or less. It was sad to see that neither of the heritage AM stations in Olean, WHDL or WEON (formerly WMNS), registered enough to be rated. Back in the day, these two stations were real community assets, super-serving Olean with strong local news and friendly personalities. I don’t think this was an issue of the stations not subscribing since their respective FMs were listed. It’s just that these AM stations, which were once stepping stones to larger markets, are now just satellite network delivery systems with no community presence.
