The Blaze is losing steam?

It would seem Apex's new attempt to put Active Rock on 103.1 is failing, they appear to be playing more classic rock in the mix. Maybe they will smarten up and move 92.1 down to 103.1 and rebrand 92.1 to a new station. The signal on 92 doesn't seem to go far but it can be a good, local station - not a station that a lot of people want to hear.

Just my two cents about the Apex situation. Give them a few months, maybe by Yule, we'll see what will happen.

Am shocked to see WWAV doing very well! We have a very small, over saturated market and when people want rock, they will say "99 rock"

Sorry, Apex but it's true...

Tweaking the playlist doesn't necessarily mean failing. It's not like they're being left in the dust by 99 Rock. They're only a share and a half out. Same for Q92. they don't trail Z96 by much. So why move everything? That makes ZERO sense.

Huh? Rob, when are you going to learn that just because YOU don't like a station, it doesn't mean the majority of people have the same opinion?

Dr. Voice - with all due respect, the radio world does revolve around rob. Have you missed the last three years on this board?

Now, as for a serious look at these ratings, I have to first say that the market of FWB and Destin is indeed a unique situation. PC and FWB/Destin have the special gifts of having literally every damn channel filled with something. NYC doesn't have as many options. There are no formats left to really fill a unique spot that will not have a competitor once the number hits 4.0+. To be fair, Crums is the real issue. The ratings for their stations in the past have been much higher. As we all know, Cruds likes the ability to drive a stations ratings down at least 50 percent in 1,000 days or they consider it as a fail. By default, Apex will get 1/2 the ratings of the Crxus stations, even if the power is less. Apex probably didn't research the real demo they need to be hitting in FWB and Destin (two different towns in their own rights.) Why would anyone go with this rock format in 2013? It is the Triple A of this decade. Now they are fragmenting it and going with more classic rock? What type of songs? There is a rock based format that still would kick in there, but there are few in the business willing to think outside the music box of conventional playlists. It has to be a smart approach to the right demo. And if it touches high school rockers or attempts to target Eglin, etc. with the wrong rock format, the advertisers are not going to see tangible results that will keep them on the books. And for what it is worth, WWAV or whatever it is now, has been a steady, steady rated for many years with a variety of formats. Why? Because it is one of those real local stations. K 92 was like this for many years as country. Somebody who hasn't lived in the area more than a few months honestly missed the home run they could have had by learning the market. It's all about local, because how much ad agency biz are ya really gonna get? Format winner hint: WROB 24/7 days a week, 200,000 watts, 234 strobeys and a mule.

I want one of those 200,000 watt FM stations. Why not make it 1 million watts. I'll take one of those.

Wave 102.1 is in a unique situation because the women they are targeting leans to the younger end of the demo. Instead of the typical 25-54 year range I'd guess the median age of the military wives living in the market is closer to 30.

For that same reason, real Classic Rock probably wouldn't be able to topple AOR formatted 99 Rock. I can see where an Active rocker with a strong signal over the bases and common areas of military neighborhoods would attract the young male demo but I don't (personally) see any reason to advertise to young men that won't likely live in the area more than 3 years... this is why The Blaze doesn't make much sense to me. I can see and audience, but I can't find the money while Wave can probably print money without having to pay an airstaff. All other Rock formats Apex could try would compete with Wave 102.1, so besides Talk... 103.1 doesn't have many (any?) viable format holes to fill so why not just stay they male answer to Wave until a Cumulus format becomes vulnerable?

There is a nice big hole for FM talk in Okaloosa and Walton counties. I understand it's an expensive format to tackle and I assume Cumulus would put up a bit of a fight to keep the top shows on WFTW. Now if Cumulus dumps Rush and Premeir shows nationwide, Apex would be foolish not to launch Talk on 103.1.

You gotta get CCENG to sign a waiver for anything over 200kw/5000ft. He doesn't sign waivers cheap.

Our area is just saturation, 100 percent saturation. Who does listen to the Blaze? Someone once said people at the AFB do.

Too many country, pop and rock. They should listen to me (or any listener) because we support radio, without listeners, there be no radio! My suggestions are just that, if they do read these boards who knows.

WROB-AM 1450 kHz
West Point, Mississippi
"Voice of Golden Triangle"

My name is taken, My call letters would be a Report On Business format, maybe Bloomberg/Talk at night? 200KW? On FM? Your crazy, if I were to reach the masses, AM is where to be. Despite our area is crap for AM.

Time to add some variety to this area.

Actually, Walton CO can easily get 101.1 FM, anything east of Maguires, 101.1 starts to come in, and it's a very strong signal to boot!

Isn't there a 1 Million watt FM high up in the Alps of Switzerland targeting northern Italy with pop music?

And Rob, have you forgotten that AM doesn't work down here?

Geez, I finally get Rob a power increase since he's never understood you can't just raise your power at your own will and he takes me down!!! :-\ ok...Why in the living hell, which it would be, would you want any AM station that covers PC, FWB, Destin and maybe even Pensacola, even with your suggested format, which ain't a bad idea in itself. So if you had $1M cash to buy a radio station, you'd buy WFTW or 98.1 - hypothetically speaking.
