The Blaze's new CP.. this doesn't make cents.. but..

103.1 The Blaze has applied to put their tower (and a decline in height) to what looks like not too far from the Seabreeze's tower, Right now, I'm hearing preaching on 103.1 (Birmingham, AL)

Hopefully, this will fix their signal here. They should apply for a 10,000 watt boost so they can clearly cover Crestview but, here it is:

Not sure why they don't put their tower on Hollywood but, they did promise to fix and when the stick is up, we shal see..

the 102.5 tower is about 400 yds from the Seabreeze tower.....perhaps they are going to combine 103.1 on that tower with 102.5....but that's only 600 khz. That's a little too close for most combiners....most combiners like 800 khz spacing minimum. A 600 khz spaced combiner is going to be expensive.

Just my humble opinion.

Well, this is strange, I'm hearing 94.1-2 WILD which is rebroadcasting WFAN... (and my radio doesn't have the option to shut off the digital iboc so it's overriding the Pensacola signal)

Will they get to add any strobeyz, Rob/aka/CCENG? I like those lites on those two towers. They sort of look like they are dancing together. One is on when the other is off. Then they both are off and then almost on together, but not exactly on at the same second. Then wham! Two exactly off and the bam, two exactly on and them backwards. Mark Carter might still cut the grass around his stick. I hope they do a better job on the new owners tower and keep it looking nice and painted and like Mark. They have lots of rattle snakes near those towers. Be careful, especially if you are a nosey CC Engineer looking for tropo.

Rob - how's the tropo these days? Can we come down to Navarre/PCB and cool off with you and that engineer fellow? 109 in the Music City yesterday. Minimal humidity. Hottest day in Nashville since they started keeping records back in the decade CCENG was born. Wishing for the 'cool' breezes of the World's most beautiful white sand beaches. Still not as hot feeling as NYC a few summers ago. Hope all is well in strobey land.

Just moving 103.1 south a little to hang out on it's sister station WWAV 102.1's tower. This makes sense and cents. What's so confusing about it? I don't know why Qantum didn't do this years ago.

Listening to 93.3 FLZ (IBOC, killing WNCV) right now as we speak.

I can't believe they dumped the 80s!!

It's good picking up the norm.. right now, 94.3 is an oldies station while Hale's micro power station is probably airing dead air. Now listening to Leo Laporte on WFLF; Damn, we need a WFLA affiliate (perhaps on 107.3??) here, guess we are not florida enough to have one..glad we can hear WFLF now!

-Rob

Did you ever ID the oldies on 94.3?

It's a good frequency for me to check even though I'm closer to 94.1's stick than you are. More often than not, WTIX from New Orleans is there under the slop. They do a good oldies format.

Your right! I thought it was q92 then I looked down and saw I was still on 93.3! Right now they are in the mix and sound pretty good.

Sorry about my blunder on WWAV's frequency....I thought it was 102.5.....102.1 and 103.1 will work fine since there is 1 mhz between them. They will have to buy a new antenna and feedline if they combine onto the same antenna. What is there now for 102.1 will not work. If they just add another antenna, and second coax, that tower will come down in the next CAT 1 hurricane.....it is CHEAP.....I was the engineer when it was installed......it was made by some fly by night company out of GA.....I had no input about the purchase....the owner at the time went 100% cheap. I remember calling the owner (not Mark Carter) after a storm to advise him that one of the guy anchors was floating in the water.....the tower almost came down. That owner asked me "Do you think we can trade some concrete?"....if I ever write a book about my days in broadcasting, that will be the name of either the book or a chapter in the book ;)

Did you see that video I posted? What kind of tower did they climb a radio tower? Surprised they don't have para shoots!

Son of a birch, i bet that book would be considered horror, comedy and certainly non-fiction. At least blog it cceng.

New antenna and feedline + consulting engineering fees + installation. With the elimination of rent for the xmtr/tower, this should pay for itself in 20 years--that is, a decade beyond Apex's corporate lifespan. They're no doubt figuring that the next owner will basically pay for it as part of the purchase price.

Still, that's a lot of trouble to go through to come out of it with no competitive gain.

You know--a significantly better signal in FWB--or a noticably better signal in PCB. I suppose the fish in the Gulf will hear "The Blaze" better...

Or am I missing something?

There's always the 10 year old, yet unused, COL change from DeFuniak Springs to Valparaiso, suggesting there was a master plan, at one time.
Could 103.1 be trying to walk the station around or make room for a move up north... say in Dothan? Could they slide down the dial to 102.9 and relocate to Hollywood or something like that? I don't really think they can do much with 103.1 in Ocean Springs/Biloxi having a 100kw C1 CP in hand.

What will this do to 99 Rock? I noticed 99 Rock now playing more classic rock.. This being a legacy station, having two active rock stations would mean war.

How well is TK doing in FWB?? I know their signal isn't strong here but they are in the ratings..

-Rob

There's nothing in Dothan on a nearby channel that I can think of that would be benefiting from this move. There's the aforementioned WOSM in Ocean Springs and a smaller station on 103.1 in Tallahassee, but nothing else to the north until you get up to The Gump.

Well perhaps I got this backwards. 102.1 is short spaced from it's current tower and couldn't move north to the 103.1 tower without dropping power. Is it possible that the 102.1 tower was to far away from Defuniak for 103.1 to move there thus creating the need to move the COL of 103.1 to Valparaiso in order to make 103.1 fit?
I wonder if 92.1 could move to the 102.1/106.3 tower site?
