The Blitz

My guess is:

They announce their "Summer Show"

OR...

they drop "the blitz" moniker as it might be outdated, and go for a more mainstream approach. New music sucks right now, and a look at the top 200 shows VERY few rock titles at all moving.

OR...

They go that Outlaw Country/ Redneck Classic Rock hybrid.

I know Hal...he's got a plan. :)

My guess is AAA or Americana or something like that, they could keep their staff, most of their listeners and gain some from the country formats, CD101, Radio1067 as well as QFM...It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that this would also etch into WTVN a well...which would make it a good cross format match for their FM Whisper property.

Just saying if you look at the resources they already have and what's in the market...I don't see them giving up on male demo's when Fish is in the house.

So that's my guess.

I have a feeling it will be all novelty hits all the time. Get ready for "CB Savage", "They're Coming To Take Me Away", "Please Mr Custer, etc. PD will be "Weird" Al Yankovic.

I'm betting that this is more an adjustment than a wholesale format change. Maybe more toward mainstream rock, but not AAA. Back when they were classic rock Magic 99.7 under Hal, they went through a reimaging/music tweaking about every 6-12 months. E.g., at one point they became "Real Rock 'n Roll Magic," rocking somewhat harder and throwing in more currents. But it was still classic rock based. Hal's a rock guy. Hope I'm wrong, though...there are much better things they could do with that signal.

"The Blitz was a cool concept that lasted awhile," Fish said. "Hopefully . . . (the new format) will (make) our advertisers happy."

So they are counting on the same advertisers or am I reading too much into that? Isn't it when most radio stations flip formats they run very light on their commercial load because they need to line up new advertisers that are looking for their new demographics? That being said, I would agree with what was said earlier, they are not giving up on their current demographics.

Ergo, probably not a format change rather a tweak or reboot. How many times did they tweak Eagle before they abandoned the format entirely?

I agree with most that this is a new coat of paint on the old house. Can't see NABCO being adventurous enough to do Triple A even though I still believe that a modern version of this, in this market, would achieve ratings and revenue for someone (are you listening CD101?). Any kind of CHR would cost them a boat load of bucks to go after WNCI and that's not in their budget either. It would also be hard to believe that they would move "Talk" to this position. Bad is still bad even though more people can get it. Look at the animal. If Hal's still calling the shots then it's some form of rock and probably more mainstream. It looks like they have finally seen what everyone else is looking at which is Gen Y is no longer listening to terrestrial radio and if you have a tower you better start looking at 25+ to land your demo's. So you have a slightly different mix of music with a new brand but you're still cutting a small chunk of the pie between WLVQ, Radio 106.7, The Brew and CD101. Nu is spot on with the idea that they could do so much more with this stick but they could also do so much more with their other two sticks. Hopefully someone in this industry will one day realize that moving the deck chairs on the Titanic is just not going to cut it anymore.

CHR doesn't ignore the younger generations and does just fine... Rock has and that's where the problem lies. Rock is too afraid to play new music. Rock gets a new single and spins it twice a day to see how it scores. CHR gets everyone excited about a new single from one of their artists then blasts it 15 times a day. I'm not saying Rock needs do exactly that but it wouldn't hurt to play new rock songs more frequently.

People have been saying on this board for years that the P.D. is committed to a rock format.
So, That is what I believe the format will be, some sort of rock or AAA format.

As far as WTDA moving to the old Blitz 99.7 frequency, they have a ad today in The Other Paper
for the 103.9 FM frequency. So, talk on 99.7 FM doesn't seem likely to me.

What about a new morning team for their new rock branding on 99.7?? Are they satisfied with
the current morning team? I think a new morning team may be unveiled soon on 99.7

Just my two cents worth.

Here is my speculation:

WBZX - COLUMBUS becomes Z100 - ALL THE HITS and make it a powerful CHR station to battle WNCI. Allow it to wedge itself between WNCI and WCKX. It may never beat WNCI, but with the station being the markets biggest biller, there are a few bucks that could go to a new CHR in town.

Remember this Clear Channel is extremely vulnerable right now. They are in a world of hurt because of the screw-ups in SanAntonio. Marketing dollars just arent there, they have a voice tracked mid-day host.

WTDA - WESTERVILLE becomes 103.9 THE BLITZ and you move Active Rock to a much smaller signal but could do much better in the ratings.

If that was going to happen, The Blitz would already be on 103.9 now.

Just joined due to couple of us at work trying to find out what is going on. We did see on another website that they also have 997rock.com which forwards the original website

Exit polls indicate those who were betting on a ROCK format are todays lucky winners.

Interesting. I wonder what was so damaged about the "Blitz" brand that they went to all this trouble to get rid of it, even though they're staying in the rock format.

Something sales-oriented maybe?

so it'll be ninty nine seven rocks. and they'll have rover from cleveland in the morning.

Rover? Really? Go with a more proven winner...Opie & Anthony. They will do better with them if they stick with rock.
