the bloodbath is here......

That's rather ominous. I've noticed a few changes in schedule in and around Portland, but er, nothing to suggest things aren't already cut to the bone. Don't yell fire until there's a fire!

Global Warming is allegedly here too, but some parts of Northern New England got two feet of snow last weekend and the temperature there was in the teens this morning . Any particular market? Care to elaborate?

It can't be much of a bloodbath in Greater Portland. Other than a few morning shows everything is voice tracked, or syndicated.

Geez... When a thread is entitled "the bloodbath is here." ...How do you not click on it? Way to hook the reader! BRAVO!!!

??? mmm...and the person is online and most likely reading what we're saying - so let's not feed into it - just trying to get us going.

On the assumption that Underminer is referring to the Portland Radio Group...they would be correct. Feel free to check the website of any one of the four FM stations that Saga owns at Portland Radio over the next few weeks. You may notice a different jock line-up than you do now. According to a reliable source, major cuts are on the way if not already underway.

Although not a bloodbath, Saga has suffered a company-wide flesh wound as staffs were hit with a 5% pay cut today.

Weighing the 2 options---5% pay cut, or losing your job? 5% pay cut, or losing your job? Yep, I know which one I'd take (until I could find something different and better). Still sucks for those who saw that 5% fly away, though.

I think that live local jocks are better than syndicated voicetracked shows.

I'd rather have that argument again than continue to read this thread.

My source confirms that "several" staff members were let go at PRG yesterday (including my source). The only ray of sunshine in all this bloodletting is the notion that when you're making next to nothing, it doesn't hurt so much when you loose the gig. Insofar as the survivors are concerned, while 5% of crap is even less crap, it still stinks. You see all this dog doo-doo everywhere you naturally figure there must be a puppy around some place. I ain't seen no feakin' puppies, have you?

Biff is correct. In addition, apparently the sales staff has been told to stop selling WYNZ, Big Hits. If the case, this would be an obvious indication that some sort of significant formatic change will be occurring to that station.

The biggest problem at Saga right now is WPOR. It's ratings collapse over the past year has resulted in dramatic revenue loss as could be expected which has been compounded by the economic issues everyone is facing.

My understanding is that the CLZ morning host, GAN morning producer, YNZ afternoon drive and the midday hosts from Big Hits and CLZ were all axed (the last two, I believe, were part timers). Bloodbath indeed.

Shouldn't Saga look at the decision makers at PRG? Some of them have been there a long toime.Look how long it took to fix WMGX.WPOR has been in bad shape way too long.WYNZ has listeners but by today's standards are too old.If a format change is coming to 100.9,what could they do musically?Any form of a/c-chr would compete with 'MGX.Too much rock in the market now.How about simulcasting WGAN.Any thoughts?

"In addition, apparently the sales staff has been told to stop selling WYNZ, Big Hits."

Right. Stop selling your station. That's gotta be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Underminer:

Have you lost it????? That happens ALL THE TIME when major formatic changes are planned to take place yet the company does not want to let any staff (or certainly the sales staff if you know what I mean) knoW what the new format is until it launches.

If Saga is going to change WYNZ to "Hot Talk" for example, they don't want the reps selling Easter schedules to Rosemount Foral or the campaign to Scarborough Terrace when the demographic of the station is going to change dramatically. If your currently reaching 54 year old woman today and your going to be targeting 26 year old guys tomorrow, you DO EXACTLY THAT.
