The Bone is broken in half

(Sorry I just had to do it.)

(Can someone delete this same topic from the Providence board. I noticed too late before I posted.)

I don't know when it takes place or took place but on The Bone's facebook they posted, "Attention Bonenation! If you listen to The Bone on 106.7 FM please switch to 106.3 FM. The Bone is no longer on 106.7 FM."

This is kind of surprising. Who ever can receive 106.7 is the simulcast already over?

Simulcast was over around 10am when I tuned in. They are just running a message to switch to 106.3.

Nassau has to sell 106.7 because they are over the ownership cap in portland. I believe 106.7 has been on the market for close to a year, I'm actually surprised that Nassau kept the bone on both stations as long as they did. Maybe this move means that a deal is close to happening for 106.7. The new question is, what kind of religious format will show up on 106.7.

Actually, I always wondered how 106.7 was allowed to sign on in the Portland market in the first place, considering WMJX Boston runs full power on 106.7. Where I am in New Hampshire, I used to get a decent signal from WMJX most nights till the North Windham ME station signed on.

No other Portland-area station operates on a full-power Boston FM frequency except 104.3 WABK and they're in Gardiner, about 30 miles north of Portland, which I guess is far enough away from WBMX 104.3.

WBMX is on 104.1.

I think the closest co-channeling between Boston and Northern New England involves 95.3 WHRB, which transmits atop One Financial Center in Downtown Boston, and 95.3 WSKX, which has its tower in York, ME. While both stations are Class As, neither station gets out all that far - since the two locations are only 65 miles apart.

106.3 the bone's main freq, based in scarbough, and 106.3 frank fm in nashua are also very closely spaced and do bleed into each other a lot over southern york county. Again both are class A's.

Their transmitter is almost 60 miles from Portland.

During a visit with friends and family back in New England this past October I was traveling north on the Maine Turnpike past the Falmouth/Portland North exit (formally Exit 10) with the WPXT-TV beacons flashing clear in the distance around 11:00PM. Meanwhile, I was picking up Carrie Underwood from WMJX dog-fighting with a Motley Crue song on The Bone. Was *this* the same flea-powered rock station that nearly swipped the pants off WBLM in the ratings a few years ago? Amazing how things keep changing in this biz.

Well it's never just been on 106.7. First it was a 106.7/104.7 simulcast, until a couple years ago, when W Bach and The Bone swapped signals, putting The Bone on 106.3/106.7.

Let's remember that WBLM got hit from two sides at the same time. One one side was The Bone, doing harder-edged Classic Rock on 106.7 and 104.7, with Howard Stern as the morning show. On the other side, Frank signed on with a pop-leaning Classic Rock/Classic Hits format.

Till WBLM got the two competitors, it was usually #1 or #2 with WPOR.

I used to live in Casco, Me...about 10 miles NORTH of North Windham, in the early 1980s, and with my yagii style rooftop FM antenna, which I actually installed so that I could listen to WBCN, I never had any difficulty receiving WMJX/WBZ-FM 106.7. In fact, I frequently could pull in what was WBZ-FM 106.7 on my car radio when driving in North Windham...and I understand that was before the signal was some what upgraded!!!!
