The Bone without Howard

Now that Howard is gone, what's the Bone in Portland going to do? Wasn't the station built around Howard Stern? Will they be picking up David Lee Roth for the morning?

Probably Hot Wings/Free Beer; that's what most of Nassau's Hawks do.

Nothing at all imprsseive about the Hot Wings & Free Beer show. Expect former Stern station to take a big hit in the ratings.

ISN'T IT SAD WHEN A RADIO STATION'S SURVIVAL COMPLETELY DEPENDS UPON AN OLD MAN WHO OFTEN INVITES HOOKERS INTO THE STUDIO...AND REALLY ISN'T TERRIBLY FUNNY?

I DON'T SUPPOSE THE MANAGEMENT AT "THE BONE" WOULD WANT TO BOTHER EXPLORING THE POSSIBILITY OF A LIVE "LOCAL" MORNING SHOW?

SLAP MY FACE....WHAT AM I SAYING????

SUCH A MISSION WOULD INVOLVE "SEARCHING FOR NEW TALENT" AND PAYING FOR IT! WHY WOULD A CONGLOMERATE (LIKE NASSAU) WANT TO DO THAT???

How much of Stern's audience stuck around after 10 anyway? It seems on most stations...very few...they tune in for Stern then scatter. How were the Bone's numbers outside AM drive?

At the very least, Nassau could do a regional "rock" morning show. Slap it on the Bone, Hawk, Q106, etc. Similar to the Buzz on Heb, Gir and Rock 93.9/101.7. It would be better than syndication.

Yeah...I tune to another station when IMUS is over at 10:00 as well...

Of course they COULD, but, oh just look at the reasons listed above as to why they won't. Is anyone even listening to Imus anymore? I tried to the other day and couldn't stomach his constant complaining. Get over it, you're rich, have a beautiful family and life for that matter! You have nothing to complain about Imus! Not that I think he'll ever read it(maybe his good buddy Tom Hoyt will forward it to him), I just needed to get it off my chest. I was listening to some of Nassau's NH & Maine stations earlier this week and I just don't get it. Is anyone who works for that company creative? A free thinker? Liner liner liner.

From a massive show out of New York to a 2-bit show out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Somewhere in this world, Howard is laughing, and his curly mane is waving through the wind that is his gas. haha

Who cares? Howard BLEW ratings-wise. My guess is that the Powers That Be™ at Bone HQ are rejoicing (for those who don't know, Stern wasn't free to those affiliates who weren't airing network spots...it was a six figure hit on the balance sheet - even in a market as small/insignificant as Portland, ME!).

Of course they DO need to find something that actually performs to the level of the rest of the station (which in all honesty, The Bone should NOT be doing as well as it is...go figure!).

Now here's the big question - Do they have a big deal, holy crap, oh my God show ready to go on January 3rd? If they do, it's the absolute best kept secret in the history of Portland radio! If they don't, why the hell not? I mean, it's not like they haven't had 14 months to figure it out...right?

Free Beer & Hot Wings? Possible, but, I doubt it. Have you heard them? They'd be GREAT on Frank. Signing the thing on with Stern was a major shock to the Portland market. I'll be VERY surprised if Nassau doesn't find a unique, high impact solution to follow Stern. The Bone is the primary reason that Frank is a winner. They know this, and, won't treat that fact lightly.

Following Howard Stern is a tough job. My hope is that Nassau brings something that makes Portland all say, "WTF?" Again.

Happy New Year, and peace to you all!

??? Huh? Frank's ratings are 2-3 times the Bone's. How is the Bone responsible for this?

Ahhh, Mr. Valhalla ... you're completely right.

I don't know what those rascals at Nassau are thinking! Same thing, day in and day out ... over and over ... hmmm, let's you and me meet in my dressing room to ...

Uh ...

Let's start again, rascals. Unless there's creativity, I guess all of Nassau will wash up and become just like a boring, same-old same-old gameshow of yesteryear, and next thing you know Tim Allen's friend from Home Improvement is your replacement.

Monotony, where's the gun? Mr. Valhalla, do you have it? Seems as though you're ready to use it on any Nassau employee or that dirty scoundrel IMUS!!

Smooches to all, have a fantastic New Year! And if you get bored, you know where to find me ... in Canada now that the swingers bars are legal again!

SMOOCHES,
dikkyDAWSON
