The Bone's Playlist

It's still hard to believe that this station was partially responsible for killing Thunder... after about 3 solid years with no discernable playlist changes, it appears that someone's been trying to sneak in some deeper album cuts. Tonight I heard them play Zeppelin's Wanton Song , and earlier this morning I heard them play some fairly obscure STP. Is this noteworthy? No, not really, but I do find it mildly amusing considering they've been playing the same handful of crap songs since they debuted... is this so they can justify their moniker, "THE NEW 102.5 The Bone"? ... "The NEW home of Bubba the Love Sponge!" Oh yeah, and what's up with the voice tracked music trivia going into each stop set? Does management really think that holds people through their nauseating commercial breaks?

"Nauseating commercial breaks," you say? Doesn't The Bone, like most Cox stations, trumpet "up to 52 minutes of music per hour?" Which adds up to two four-minute breaks per hour?

People (assuming, of Earth...), it's Cox/Tampa. The same group that calls their 94.9 station "The NEW Magic"...for...I've literally forgotten how long its been since they switched...and I was not aware that tunes like Prince's "Little Red Corvette" or Pink's ode to partner abuse "Please Don't Leave Me" would be "Soft AND Contemporary"...

Good for The Bone if they're throwing in some deeper cuts. Anything that knocks another airing of "Welcome To The Jungle" off the air for at least one rotation is fine with me....

Cow swears up and down that the breaks haven't changed this whole time, I haven't payed attention, but I'm sure he's right. However, I was speaking about content... the in house production on their local spots is bush league... and the next time I hear Spice Boy say, "What's up you bastards", not only am I not going to the boneonline.com, I'm going to go out and find a pig and castrate it in the Cox parking lot ;D

Now I know what you're thinking, "Cedric, if you don't like the Bone, why do you listen?" Well, I don't... much... at least not any more than any other station... and anyway it's my job... sorta.

In any event, the music selection is terrible, and those responsible for programming should be run over by a steam roller driven by none other than Tampa's very own Mark "The Shark" Larsen. Go ahead and ask Scott (the dude who posts criticisms of 98Rock) I'm sure he'll concur.

Are you what one would call a "hostage listener" of The Bone?

Sure, and I've developed Stockholm syndrome...

Yep, it's awful.....very possibly the ''worst'' or most limited playlist of the genre.....but lets be clear, most of the other stations on the dial have the same limited playlist, don't they ?

it's a bit more acceptable when you are burning out brand new music.....but when you are 70's 80's 90's rock.....gotta agree Bone playlist is so small it's sad, unlistenable really. After having satellite radio for years now......it's really hard to take most of the stations out there.

I'm not going to be all negative on this post

shout out for ''MAX 98. 3'' !

If Max would tighten up just a touch and direct the library a bit better it would be a fantastic radio station. I think they've got a very high tune in and tune out rate due to the extreme "train wrecks" between certain songs. They seem to have a much larger playlist than say The Point but the again, the music direction needs to be better.

Also note that the high tune in and tune out rate in at least the Tampa metro is probably due to the fringe signal.
