The Breakfast Club | 105.3 THE BEAT

All weekend, social media has been buzzing that iHeart is dropping The Breakfast Club from 105.3 The Beat. Sooooo many people in the comments that reside in Atlanta are saying they had no idea 105.3 was even a radio station. What a shame!
 
That’s kind of strange. What would they carry?

Unless something has changed, Premiere Networks, an iHeart company, is the syndicator, and the show originates from Power 105.1/New York, an iHeart station.

Short of a format change, I’ll be surprised if it happens. Atlanta does have too many UC stations for that audience, but 105.3’s signal fits the format really well.
 
Good (if true). Hopefully 105.3 flips to something that'll actually attract decent listenership.

They should make major changes to their dumpster fire at 95.7 in Tampa while they're at it.

I found it very strange as well! IMO, 105.3 went urban to move the Breakfast Club on a bigger signal compared to Streetz 94.5’s signal. The fact that so many people don't even know they exist is frightening. However, thats what happens when stations have little to no local personalties. Perhaps they may give a spin at a local morning show if the rumors are true, who knows?!?!

I don’t think it’s likely they’re going to pay for a local morning show. They don’t invest in local morning shows on their 2 big signals, where their revenue is a lot higher.

The only other possibility in the Premiere stable is Big Boy out of L.A. But The Breakfast Club is much bigger and far more successful. I think iHeart feels they need to have an affiliate in Atlanta for The Breakfast Club.
 
If true….Could a format change be coming and they want to make it available to another station to clear? What would replace it? iHeart removing their flagship UC morning show from an UC station is very suspicious.

105.3 has an almost identical signal pattern to 104.1, and we see how well 104.1 does. It’s definitely a great signal for an urban format and was terrible for the Hispanic format. The signal isn’t the station’s problem. IMO, they’re struggling because there are just so many other options that are more established and do it better.
 
In the 6+ beauty pageant numbers released today, Power 96.1 has reached a new all-time low.

105.3 actually saw a nice bump and managed to tie 96.1.

Probably for a concert or something. I highly doubt it would have anything to do with The Breakfast Club or 105.3.

Speaking of troubled iHeart stations, even 105.7 is on a bad downward trend. I can’t recall when that frequency was getting half a share or so.

And remove the only Spanish-language FM that substantially covers the market on a full powered stick, therefore taking away an additional revenue stream?

So, the cancellation rumor involving The Breakfast Club was indeed a publicity stunt!

As soon as the show devoted airtime to the topic and claimed the PD wasn't returning their phone calls, that set off my B.S. detector. :)

I suspect 105.3 will flip to some sort of watered down rock format. Personally, I'd like to see classic hits, variety hits or classic country programmed there.
