"The Breeze" network.

I'm in the process of researching info on history of "The Breeze" network for a possible Wikipedia entry. While I was stumbling around online, I've found this (from www.beachshag.com):

"The Fall 1994 advent of The Breeze (WWBZ) as the flagship station of the Beach, Boogie and Blues Network out of Charleston marked the beginning of a new era. Woody and Leo Windham sit at the helm of the morning show in partnership with owner Frank Baker. Their sister station, WHBZ, signed on the air in mid-June from Port Royal, pumping the Beach, Boogie and Blues from Wilmington, NC to Jacksonville, Florida. (The Breeze Network eventually encompassed four stations: Charleston & Columbia, SC, Port Royal/Hilton Head/Brunswick, GA and one in Wilmington, NC. The network lost three of the stations in 1998 & 1999. The Breeze went off the air in September, 2000)."

Does anyone remember what was the station in Wilmington? I thought it might have been what is now 94.9 The Surf, but I'm not sure. Also, any other info on the network would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Robyn

Hi Robyn, glad to see you here on the Eastern NC board. I wasn't aware Woody, Frank and Leo had a Wilmington station in the group...shows what I know, I guess. I'm sure someone on this board would know for sure...strong representation here from the Greenville, Washington, New Bern area and periodically from the Wilmington area. Honestly though, nowadays I don't see much from Wilmington unless it's one of John Stevens' old stations.

I know that "The Breeze" had a station at 106.9 in Wilmington, North Carolina,
but can't remember the call letters, maybe someone will remember this.

Found it! It was 106.7 WLGX (now WUIN "The Penguin") out of Carolina Beach. According to the FCC records, they've signed on in the mid 90s. Was sold to Baker Broadcasting (Breeze network) in 1997, but was sold off in August 1999.

The only possibility in Wilmington would be 105.3fm

Not really a Wilmington station....covers south

It is still owned by Ocean Broadcasting...who does still own 106.7 but have it on LMA with Sea Comm

You are right it was 106.9. For some reason 106.9 has never had any signal. It was hard to hear them in Wilmington......and still is!

For your information, "Ocean Broadcasting" was sold a few years ago to "NextMedia", and 105.3 which is licensed to Fair Bluff, North Carolina
was doing a "Beach Music" format under different owners until recently,
i'm not sure if they were sold again, but they are now Spanish.
