The Brew 105.7...Just throwing this out there.

Is it just my tainted mindset or do the current tv commercials seem to say:

"If you're a fat dancing loser or a fat woman with too much make-up, you're listening to the brew."

Maybe I'm on my own planet about this, I just really think those spots put a very negative light on the station and it's audience.

(And before anybody starts singing the hate speech song, I'm as fat as he is...I just keep my shirt on and I try not to paint things on my stomach...no matter how strong the urge.) ???

I am a bit puzzled by the whole thing..what about the skinny "girlfriend" that dances with him in the other spot? The whole thing makes my stomach turn. I listen to the brew and can't relate to this-what's the point?
Some fat guy with a fat mama or skinny girlfriend wanna throw some input in on this? What does it have to do with rock? Guess it gets us talking or gets us to to throw up. Oh! And I am not a fan of the "Addicted to Love" video-view that on their website and tell me what ya think, 989.

Exactly XI. If your a station in dear need of Cume, you come up with attention grabbing commercials that make you check it out atleast once to see what its all about. If your cume is fine, you then develop common sense commercials that drive listeners to chose you more often and for longer periods of time (thus creating TSL). Look at Sunny 95's commercials, GREAT!

These commercials arent designed by nobody radio people who just want to have fun, they are people who do this for a living and this commercials are designed for multiple stations across the country.

The gross out factor is common in advertising.

The old Dancing Kevin solo commercial was gross, I don't see the connection of a dancing blob and 80's music.
I just feel sorry for Kevin whoring himself out and knowing he is going to die a premature death from his obesity.
Great lesson for the kids.

Maybe the analysis should go back further, to the notoriety Kevin gained by dancing spontaneous jig(gle)s in the stands at Nationwide during Blue Jackets' games. Why did people find that entertaining? What if it had been an in-shape guy doing the dancing? Would fans have found this as entertaining?

When the Kevin ads originally appeared to have some ratings impact here, the original Brew (WQBW Milwaukee) also started using him, um, heavily, in TV ads and on Billboards. From what I can tell, they've dumped him.

I've seen that on tv too. Foul is the only word that came to mind. What's with the sandwich? The Brew is obviously trying to reach the level of Blatz and nowhere near Michelob.

First, you can have fun at what you do for a living-if you don't have a passion for what you do then why the hell are you doing it? I don't care if you're at the drive thru window tossing fries for a living-you have to find a way to enjoy your job or you don't go in the next day, do you?

Secondly, anyone dancin' a fool jig at Nationwide is funny-that's why they pan across the fans and catch them doing stupid crap at these games. We know this to be "reality tv." Why Kevin (and Ryno was used in this way too w/ those "one fat guy you don't mind waking up to" mentions) dancing about makes Brew a better choice is beyond me. Sunny commercials make sense. 97.1 spots still stick with me too-and they were simple and boring..the brew spots seem a turn-off for any station.

989-the sandwich...it's just got to stop, man. Kevin in a dress and lustful eyes and make up?

Just my observations there. Good topic.

Ok, this is sort of off topic and may have been mentioned before but it drives me bonkers. I noticed when the Brew first debuted that whomever designed their logo missed coloring in two parts of the logo. Inside the "B" for Brew and between the "B" and "r" of the Brew should be red. It has since been repaired on their website logos but all the commercials and billboards have this awkward looking "unfinished" logo and the same unfinished logo is painted on Kevin's belly in all the commercials.

Yes, I know, excessively concerned with details.

What makes you think this was necessarily a mistake? They still have areas of white to help connote a bottle-cap shape. Perhaps they originally thought that larger white patches on the left would add to the effect, e.g., like a reflection, but later changed their minds. (Of course, re the Kevin commercials, there's always the possibility they used cherry-flavored body-paint and he couldn't resist tasting some logo.)

On the Milwaukee Brew homepage I see that there is different white shading in the main logo at the top vs. the one in the Bon Jovi concert ad (which may be gone by the time you look at the link): http://www.973thebrew.com/main.html

Finally, I notice that while Milwaukee apparently had the distinct privilege of losing Kevin (at least he's not on the website), the Omaha Brew has now adopted him -- whole hog -- Cornhuskers cap and all: http://www.961thebrew.com/pages/dancinkevin.html

I really think the dancing Kevin is because these 3 stations are for males who drink lots of beer and have beer guts hence the beer cap logo. Thus you have Dancing Kevin. I just think it's kinda funny but maybe a little over the top too. Has anyone ever actually met this Kevin? Be a trip for sure! :D

I hope that wasn't meant as an insult as I am if it was. I just got into liking this format and was wondering if the Brew was going to change due to it's kinda low rating. I don't read this board much because I'm not from here. Or were you being sarcastic?

Notice the big, smiling happy face...
Just playing with with you, my friend.

The Brew would seem to have some nice potential if they could just develop some consistentcy. A couple nites ago I had it on during overnights and it was a really nicely constructed, compelling blend of styles and eras. Fun to listen to. But every time I think they're finally addressing the consistency issue, the next two days are back to Classic Rock plus a little Hair Band...while hardly anything else on their list gets played. I'm over-generalizing of course, but it's a very real phenomenon and rather puzzling.

Hmmm...it's now a couple days since that last post, and the Brew seems to be maintaining a nice consistent mix for about the longest period yet. Maybe this time it will actually "stick." Got my fingers crossed...

You're right on Roo - it has stabilized a bit. My guess is the new PD
is finally getting settled in for the winter book and developing a "sound" for the Brew. It has potential to be a really good station, I just wonder how much CC corporate is mucking things up.
